This. I drove by the AZ Center and noticed the same thing and was severely disappointed. DPI is doing a good job replacing PVs with actual shade trees around downtown so to see this was kind of shitty.

I walked to lunch today from the office and it was borderline too hot, would have broken a sweat if I had to go another block. I'll just have to find a place that isn't a half mile away...

I'm not sure why the Arizona Center is failing to provide adequate shade in its renovated areas. Its interior garden, which is not being dramatically changed, has always been a hidden oasis.

Good to hear. When I was working for US Bank a couple years ago, that tower was pathetically empty with US Bank only occupying 2 floors. Hoping this is a good sign for the Mero as a whole for lower office vacancies.

So - the US effective is hosting the World Cup for 2026 - 10 US cities will host games. Looking at the list of candidate cities - I have to wonder why the Phoenix Area - which should be a top 10 metro by then - isn’t on that list. We can clearly host an event like this. Did we withdraw a bid? Is the city/region asleep at the wheel here? Anyone know? Huge opportunity for the region to step up to the international spotlight....

I wondered the same. Phoenix, along with Chicago and some other cities, withdrew itself from consideration because of the uncertainty of the financial impact on the city.

Might be for the best since it's "usually" played in the summer (thanks you lying, corrupt, slave driving, murderous, Qataris) Sun Devil Stadium would be out of the question so that would leave enclosed and air conditioned Cardinals Stadium which is about a 30 minute drive from the airport. I don't even want to think how long it would take to get there by mass transit. I know there would be shuttles, but still, we're dealing with people from all over the world who would wonder how it can take an hour to get from the airport to the stadium.

I guess that's a reasonable reason. Still feels like a missed opportunity - considering the success of the Copa Cup and other similar events held recently.

Well, this is a bit of a bummer:

Second year festival Lost Lake in Phoenix is being canceled, Billboard has learned. The multi-day event promoted by Superfly -- the team behind Bonnaroo with AC Entertainment and who played a role in a partnership promoting Outside Lands and Clusterfest -- will be releasing a statement later Friday (June 15) announcing the Oct. 19-21 festival at the city's Steele Indian School Park is officially canceled, likely because of poor ticket sales.

Cool to see the old schematics for Tempe Town Lake back in the 1970s/1990s and compare to where we are now. Although I wish the Hayden Ferry corner retained the marina for an interesting focal point close to Mill, I'm more than elated to see how Rio Re-imagined will tackle the TTL and the rest of the riverbed.

Tempe planned several years ago to reroute river water around Tempe Town Lake through the storm water system as it affects overall lake water quality.

I've been a bit annoyed that they've never done this as the riparian areas in Phoenix could certainly use it. Instead the cathedral-like expanse under the 202 interchange is basically a swamp that serves nobody.
