I really love this building; austere but still graceful.

New Photos Show Impressive Scale of Palais de Justice
Quote:
Residents of Clichy-Batignolles on the northern edge of central Paris have been craning their necks a lot lately, owing to a 160-metre skyscraper with 38 floors that has risen in their neighbourhood. Visible from across the city, the Renzo Piano-designed Palais de Justice consolidates various regional, police, public prosecution, and district courts around the city to become the largest law courts complex in Europe.

Amazing.

I can't understand why this building and so many other new buildings (Philarmonie, Canopé, Fondation Louis Vuitton, etc.) and projects (Triangle, Helka, Trinity, Alto, etc.) in Paris still have not been drawn on this website.....

Anyway, happy at the dear attorneys, (ironic, sarcastic tone) bright and pure servants of the local justice who'll be in there. Those same smart attorneys who were stupidly grumbling cause they have to leave the ancient buildings of the Île de la Cité. Lol, well somehow, I still have a feeling that tower will be more comfortable.

That's some wonky massing but...I don't hate the building itself.

It's vile for Paris however.

Yeah, I think anywhere else, I would be singing the praises of this building. But in it's current setting, just seems out of place.

I don't think it is out of place at all. As a matter of fact I think it's great that they decided to implant a skyscraper there because it te-introduices tall buildings in Paris. We need those in order not to make Paris' open air museum syndrom become even worse ! Along with Tours Duo and Tour Triangle I think we are entering a new era. An era where skyscrapers won't look like huge single monoliths surrounded by small buildings. This new courthouse is an invitation for more skyscrapers in the area and we should salute that !

I don't understand why they built it there though, why not at Le Defence? This thing will stick out almost as much as Tour Montparnasse

Because more towers are actually planned in the area AND also because there's still today huge snobbery towards La Défense as it is in the outskirts of the city center.
Also, many areas around the new courthouse need to be economically boosted and this building will bring new activities and a more diverse population or in other terms, this part of the city was in desperate need of gentrification.
