If it is state owned they can opt out of the planning process. I'm not sure about CIM/Calpers falling into that category but I hope they have to go through the planning process.

what about just 1 tower that looked the same. I always though that the 2 towers look was kinda silly. Just think if it was 1 tower...with all the deposits it could of been built...possibly...

At this rate I'll have moved to Utah before anything changes outside my office window...

At this rate, we'll ALL have moved to Utah before anything significant happens at that site. Sometimes, I really hate this city.

After you die, your dust will blow over to Utah.

I already moved to Utah. And downtown Salt Lake is full of cranes.

Utah

That's because the Mormon church is spending billions of the 10% tithing money it collects trying to create an artificial urban buffer zone for the LDS temple. You can't compare SLC to SAC - it runs on a different economy. I lived there for years - go Utes!

It's really depressing some times as I go between the SLC construction posts and the SAC posts; I just cring at what might have been or could be here in Sactown.

Rest assured though: when I do move to Utah in the next year, I'll still keep an eye on things here! Most of our family is still here, so you'll still have the dancin' goldcountry-exile tomato to bug y'all!

Well it's good that someone is doing it. Don't I wish there were a large organization in Sacramento that would invest in the city...ahem...CalPERS!

But an "artificial urban buffer zone?" Really? There will be nothing artificial about it. I have seen it for myself and it's very real.

The problem is, that it's still Salt Lake City and worse yet its in Utah. (No offense, I'm just not a fan of Utah)

Although as you pointed out, they do have a couple of nice projects coming down the pipeline.

Now Austin on the other hand, shows no sign of slowing down. I remember that both Sacramento and Austin had numerous high profile projects announced about the same time.

But in Austin, they're actually getting built.

It's been mentioned before in jest but as nothing else seems to be happening at 301 I'll bring it up again as a legitimate proposition: what about putting up a couple drivethru fast food restaurants at the 301 site, with a ten-year lease, so that they could be torn down when the market for offices/condos/hotels returns?

In the near term there's not going to be financing or demand for more highrise offices or condos downtown. There aren't enough people living nearby to make a park or plaza worthwhile, and a park generates no revenue.

Why not put up a couple of drivethru fast food places in this part of Sacramento that has none? Cheap fast food is the restaurant niche that's holding up best in the downturn. Fast foods create jobs and tax revenue for the city that an empty lot doesn't. The nearby office workers would like it. The traffic on L Street heading to I-5 is a natural audience. I think it would be a great success.

Ten years is long enough to pay back the building costs and make a nice profit. Then whenever things get better tear them down.

I vote for Wendy's and Popeyes.

Why build anything? Just park a couple of roach coaches on the site and be done with it.

Speaking of fast food......what's missing downtown and midtown is a good old fashion ice cream place (beside jonny rockets). Like Leatherbys, Vic's, Gunthers.

Sidenote: What's going on with that new Hot Italian place?... on 16th and Q streets....seems to be taking forever to finish.

I wish! But I've got a business to run! When it gets to a certain point I'll sell it and move back...or to San Diego. Either way, I'm going back to Cali.

That's ok. I'm no where near close to moving back to Sac. Don't really mind right now either since SLO is treating me so well.
