It has not been established that the base is covered in stucco.

Yes, it was one of those materials that Gehry used when he started. But he's too good for that now.

For example, in place of corrugated metal and chain-link fencing, he now uses glass curtain walls with an undulating pattern. For stucco, he now substitutes precast concrete panels. See his Fondation Louis Vuitton.

Bike riding in the Arts District today, still smoldering the James K. Hill and Sons Pickle Works Building is basically gone, walls and the end near 1st intact, sadly I suspect it will be deemed a total loss and subsequently leveled.

Waiting List Grows As First Phase Of Condominium Sales At Perla On Broadway Nearly Sells Out In First Month Of Release

11/1/2018 5:30:32 PM
(MENAFN - PR Newswire)

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 1, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Downtown Los Angeles condominium tower Perla on Broadway first made its stylish residences available September 15 with the launch of its sales center. With studios starting in the high $400s and going up to two bedroom Sky Homes on the top floors for up to $1.5M, Perla provides a wide range of home options in the historic Broadway Corridor.

With an attractive price point and a trove of unexpected amenities promised to future residences, it's no surprise that sales have taken place in a much more rapid pace than expected. SCG America, the developer behind the new condominium tower, announced that the first phase of the development has almost completely sold out, with 85 percent of the first phase's 120 condos sold in just two weeks. Following this success, the developers plan to unveil phase two early next year, with hopeful buyers already lining up to join the growing waiting list.

What do you mean? Thought they were only demolishing the side facing the Viaduct construction?

Got it. That’s sad. One of the oldest buildings in LA. The interior isn’t as important as the exterior, though, being it’s an industrial building. The brick exterior could possibly be saved .

^ $1.5MM for a penthouse is somewhat of a bargain, comparatively speaking, and depending on the square footage.

Speaking of things for sale, just received an email that Lifan Tower, the 29-story, 306-unit residential building proposed at 7th and Witmer in City West, is up for sale. Appears the initial development team was just there to get it entitled - which it is - then sell. I'd like to see a deep-pocketed developer like a Hanover or Forest City come in and get this built. Or, if any forumers have some spare cash, I'd go in on it with you...

Hopefully “upgrades” to the West Hall include a cosmetic makeover. I pass by the building every day and it’s just an eyesore.

I don't mind the mid-century style of the West Hall. What needs to be improved is the complex's overall pedestrian interaction at street level.

The convention center is city owned and managed by AEG, correct? Isn't this funneling taxes into improving a civic building that will generate additional tax revenue as a result?
