It's on a hill that's slanting down to the left. Makes it look like it's leaning to the right.

The North Austin Complex has a construction webcam now. I added the link to the sticky thread. Two of the cranes are up now.

They have been playing with trees for the past two months at the 1601 Congress site, but today site prep finally got underway.

From today. Here's the 1801 Congress site. According to the TFC, vertical construction won't start until June. By then this will be one huge pit.

damn that garage is going to be huge... what a waste of space.

it's such a shame HHSC employees generally can't afford to live in the area because the whole state complex here and on the other side of the Triangle could be so walkable/bikeable. bus access to these campuses is actually great as well, but most state employees live in the far flung suburbs so it doesn't matter much

I really like the existing brutalist structure and am happy to see that they're keeping it and developing the low-rise portion of the lot into a modern glassy building.

God, that's an ugly building. Demo can't happen soon enough.

They started moving a tree today at the 1601 site.

So after spending millions of dollars and years of delay to redesign the Waller Creek Inlet Facility to preserve the CVC in Waterloo Park, guess there this giant live oak is ending up.

New? This is going to be nice when it's finished. I hope the Texas Music Museum plans get revived. But I haven't heard anything about it this Leg session.

If all this goes to plan, that area will have a totally different feel. Looking forward to it.

Love all those casual/hip state employees lounging about on the balcony and terrace. I am sure these areas will be a beehive of activity.

There are two cross streets on the mall in the new renderings. That kinda' ruins it in my mind. I suppose they are needed for an improved traffic flow, but I wish they were put underground.

EDIT: I looked at the old renderings, and I guess they were always part of the plan.

There are 5 or 6 cross streets cutting through the Mall in DC between the Capitol and the Washington Monument. It does kind of take the casual end to end walk out of it. There are some similarities between the two except ours won't be lined with that many interesting places to visit.

I think these look really nice for state office buildings. How many are planned? I can’t tell if it’s just the two on the left or if the 4th building down the row is also a proposed rendering, making a total of three.

What are the heights on these? 200-something?

Edit: Dug through the thread and realized what I thought were two buildings is Building One and that the second building is further down the block.

I love the concept of a promenade here, with the amphitheater, spill out cafe, and the green space. A lot of good activation. So what’s the story with this possibly connecting to UT’s pedestrian Speedway? Is that still in the plans?

Is that large grant from the Moody Foundation to UT and the Blanton going to impact on the northern end of this mall project?
