Apollo had announced their plans sometime back.[/QUOTE]

The one bhasid identified was Hotel project by Middle East group near Varuna Flats ( Elamkulam) . I doubt anyone has posted the rendering of Kadavanthra building .

Vallarpadam rail link work is on

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: Ground-breaking ceremony for the rail link to the proposed International Container Transhipment Terminal (ICTT) on Vallarpadam Island was held here on Friday in the presence of a large number of people and officials from Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), that is executing the rail link project, Cochin Port Trust, India Gateway Terminals Limited (IGTL), Goshree Islands Development Authority (GIDA) and the district administration.

The 8.86-km track will cost a total of Rs.246 crore and is expected to be completed by March 2009. The track will take off from the proposed Vallarpadam yard, crosses existing road linking the Goshree bridges 2 and 3, enters the backwaters and moves via Mulavukad, reaches Vaduthala. From here it will cross the Chittoor road to reach Edappally.

An official communication here said that the rail-bridge track would not affect the existing road traffic in any way. While RVNL is doing the rail link work, the physical work is being carried out by Afcons Infrastructure Limited.

Chairman of the Cochin Port Trust N. Ramachandran, District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish and Additional Railway Divisional Manager H.S. Mushathique were among those present at the occasion.

Finally the anti-development fringe gave in. The works is said to be 3 months ahead of schedule.
As the 4-lane road works have already moved ahead, this will provide a major infrastructure relief for the city.

plans are to take up the phase II (extensions) and the phase III (widening) together, this must serve the need
of Tech parks too.

Just finshed reading the city devp plan on the Kochi corporation website. The CDP looks quite good in fineprint but executing them will be a gargantuan task. The plan contains several interesting projects like:-
1. Outer ring road, inner ring road.
2.Flyovers,escalators,paved walkways,rest houses etc.
3.Beautification of MG road from mattanchery to North overbridge, widening of link roads etc and the MRTS project.
4.Tourism projects like Queen of Arabian sea(they have set aside 50 crores for this),Extension of marine drive walkway till Vaduthala, beautification and re-development of Broadway,I- max theatre etc.
6. underground drainage systems, widening and cleaning of canals and paving the walkways alongside it.
Is there anything they have failed to address?
On the whole the report looks promising but i have little faith in the corporators and officials who make big promises and often fail to keep them. They should bring in more transparency to tendering processes, financial dealings.award of contracts etc.For this Kochiites can create a monitoring committee consisting of teachers, engg students, docs and other professionals. They can extract info on development works (under JNNURM) from Kochi corp using RTI.Even newspapers which are published from Kochi can play a proactive role like times of India does in Bangalore(it carries weekly updates on the various infrastructure projects in the city)Till then we can only hope that renewal mission of Kochi doesnt get mired in endless delays and corruption.

Kochi is Listed as Emerging Growth Centres of 2007 , A good recognition by an International Agency . Hope our politicians wake up and address the needs of this City which is growing at exponential pace.

Do the politicians really need to be told ? I'm sure they all know this. Just that they like
to extract the maximum out of the golden goose before feeding it.

Today in Manorama supplement I read that construction of Vallarpadom road is facing some hurdles regarding contract even though the inauguration was done one month ago even though rail work is progressing in full swing. Does anyone know whether it is true? Also that the construction work of the terminal will begin in June.

An article from Mathrubhumi Dhanakaryam

http://www.mathrubhumi.com/2007_cust...49_32bis1n.pdf

Sobha developers is making huge investment in Kochi. They have promised to start construction works before monsoon. But the way LDF commies work Iam worried whether they will get the permission to start work at least before next monsoon.
They have also sought SEZ status. The biggest worry is regarding the LDF policy regarding SEZ now.

If the developers have completed all the land transactions prior to the sez application, there wont be any problem in getting SEZ status. Also CPI(M) cannot protest against SEZs on any moral ground cos that will be a political suicide(esp after the Nanadigram incident they cant go on flaunting their double standards and hypcrisy anymore). For any project there will be hurdles and the antidevp lobby's arguments(in vallarpadam;'s case) would be simply shunned by the public who are fed up with the antics of these morons.

Parsvnath and CIAL projects are surely going forward. Parsvnath layout is already posted
here. The full plan with renderings will be out soon. Remember Parsvnath already got SEZ status along with Unitech . So no problem.

CIAL park has got the final clearance from govt and the director board. Govt has already
forwarded the SEZ status application to centre.

There is some legal wrangling going on over the GIDA D4 land.Venus hotels owned by Venugopal nair had won the bid by quoting Rs333 crores . Hotel Venus International, had not furnished two bank guarantees for 40 per cent of the bid amount within the time stipulated in the tender conditions. So the next highest bidder Puravankara(who were ready to match the Venus int's bid amount) moved to the high court against venus.Ultimately who got the land,venus/puravankara?
Venus was planning a Seven star hotel, luxury apartments,IT park etc on the GIDA plot.

Also I have heard of something called Kinfra IT park in Kalamassery. Is it in the same area as the proposed Biotechnology park? Also has the construction of BT park started? What is the present status?
