LOL, I can't even call it skyline filler because its not really filling anything. At least the rooms will have some nice views. We'll be seeing more and more of these hotels popping up around the city, even in the outer boroughs where new hotels have been opening.

While it is bland an uninspiring, at least it's not offensive like the McSam and Kaufman combination. This building won't be noticed by anyone except us building gurus who follow them. I'm fine with it.

I literally biked by an hour ago and there's a piling machine on site, and it's been there for a few days, I work a few blocks away.

Well the base is 2 floors shorter than the rendering so who knows what else might have changed.

New York YIMBY:

Construction Update: 161 Front Street
BY: NIKOLAI FEDAK ON FEBRUARY 27TH 2014 AT 1:30 PM

Quote:
The new Fairfield Inn hotel at 161 Front Street has topped-out, and cladding has begun rising on the Peter Poon-designed tower. The building stands 31 stories tall, and the developer is the Lam Group.

161 Front Street has approximately 65,000 square feet of space, and the Fairfield Inn will have 200 rooms. The tower is located on the periphery of the Financial District, standing one block to the south of the South Street Seaport.
....

Completion of the Fairfield Inn is expected later this year.

What is going on with that hideous building with the zig zag on the blank facade? It really is a blight on the skyline.

What is it and when is it going away?
