It's helpful to read the article before posting. The proper way to put this is that the delay is not forthcoming, but has already occurred, so they are already approximately a year behind schedule due to a financing issue that is reportedly already resolved. So the delay is not coming, but already accounted for, and construction should continue on.

Are you sure, I hope so I can't wait to see the final product.

Colemonkee is correct. Work is occurring daily, but not at the rate that its normally occurring. Hence the 12 month extension period (added to the project time table) to make up for the slower pace of work. But no worries as this is still on the game. I guess a way to put the article in the layman's term is that instead of working 16 hours a day, you only work 8, and those extra lost hours cause a delay, but work is still occurring daily. So its not a delay in the sense of a work stop order where its stalled for a year but a delay in terms of a final completion date.

Megatall Jeddah Tower Over 20 Percent Complete

Quote:
The world's next tallest building is over 20 percent structurally complete, as Jeddah Economic Company and Kingdom Holding Company continue to watch construction unfold on their monumental development. With 167 habitable floors stretching over a kilometre-high volume, the Jeddah Tower will handily surpass the 828-metre height of Dubai's Burj Khalifa, which has been the world's tallest structure since 2007.

I understand the structural aspects of the design for this building, but to be honest I find it bland and uninspiring. I love the height, but I wish it was a more useful tower at its peak, that would be something. And the fact that it is not even needed is another thing. But good on them for building to new heights. Just not my cup of tea.

The design of this one has actually grown on me quite a bit. It's like a taller mash-up of the Burj Khalifa and the Shard, which I am both fond of.

And while it is unfortunate that towers of these heights have unusable or uninhabited upper-levels, after you eclipse a certain height, it's diminishing returns, at least with our most advanced present technologies.

Isn't odd this super tower is been built in the middle of the desert with nothing around it but sand.

They are actually going to build things all around it in the future but if you look on Google earth you can see it is surrounded by civilization and kind of near the ocean as well. Not really as remote as you would think, just used to be a really big empty lot. To see the renders for this you just need to go back a page or 2.

It makes me sad that I've been to China and Taiwan and Malaysia and the US and seen a good chuck of the world's tallest towers, but I'll never get to see this one in person.

I actually think it's more of an homage to Frank Lloyd Wright's Illinois Tower design. Especially since that tower was designed to be a mile high.

Fortunately Jeddah isn't off limits like Mecca and Medinah are. Saudi Arabia is still a really difficult country to get into, but there isn't the religious ban like with the Mecca tower.
