I'm also disappointed the facade is flat with the glass. I was hoping for some geometry (though the building itself covers that overall) and texture!

Room with a view

This has really been bugging me so I thought I would ask. Floor plan for unit 26D shows a window in Bedroom 2 that faces towards Central Park. Unit 15I lower down has the same window, albeit in the Master Bedroom. 1330 Sixth Ave to the west has that small portion of the building that extends out to the east. It appears to be a shaft of some sort. For those who live on the lower floors, (15I, 26-27D) is this shaft their actual view?

To wit, are those people getting the shaft?

My understanding has been that there would be no window there, but I'm not certain.

Yes, the model looks like the aluminum panel features are offset out from the face of glass to give a solid grid look with depth, whilst the actual curtainwall, albeit geometrically impressive, does look a bit 'flat' doesn't it.

We talked about it earlier, but there was a reason for the switch:

The other unusual feature of 53W53’s diagrid structure is what it is made of. Nouvel’s original design was intended to be built in steel. But the floor-to- floor heights of a steel structure would have limited the number of stories too much, so WSP investigated how to create the same aesthetic in concrete instead – “the first time that a diagrid structure of this magnitude and complexity has been done in concrete,” notes Oliveira.

Still a glorious design, one of the top two or three going up in the city right now. It's still my favorite, although there are some challengers (Steinway, Flatbush).

For frame of reference at least for me, 9 West 57th is 689'.

That last Top o' the Rock pic shows TV/53W53 surpassing that...so it's at or above 700' by now.
