Bethlehem, PA

Went there for the Bach Festival this weekend. Beautiful old town. This forum inspired me to go out and buy a camera. This is my first post. I hope you all enjoy it. Sorry, but no skyscrapers.

Great shots of some very old buildings. Are any of those 18th century perhaps?

I believe those large stone buildings date from around 1760. The Moravians settled the city in 1741. Unfortunately, there were many more buildings like this, but they were torn down (hard to believe) or fell down. And I thought this was another nice bit of trivia about Bethlehem, from Wikipedia:

"On March 27, 1900, the Bach Choir of Bethlehem presented the American debut of Lutheran composer Johann Sebastian Bach's Mass in B Minor in the city's Moravian church."

That's one of the pieces they performed while I was there. They love Bach in Bethlehem.

Even though I'm into Allentown more than Bethlehem, those are some nice pics.

Great shots! Hard to believe this is your first photothread. There are some fine buildings in Bethlehem too.

This is the North Side of Bethlehem. If you like grit, the South Side is for you.

Awesome pics BTW. Musicfest in Bethlehem is awesome, you should check that out.

Bethlehem has some really nice houses. It doesn't even look too Pennsylvanian; it has a little bit of a New Jersey feel that you'd get along the Delaware River, or maybe a little bit of a mountainous Philadelphia feel.

Thank you for posting Bethlehem! It is rare to see any photos of this city. I am one of the representatives of Winston-Salem on the forums (Moravian city settled by the same founders as Bethlehem) and both cities share many things in common, including their love of European classical music. I wouldn't mind living in this city. All Moravian cities, in my opinion, are beautiful.

I don't know what others were saying, but this looks pretty damn pensylvania-y to me. If you ask me New Jersey has a little bit of a Bethlehem-y feel, not vice versa.
