Victoria may well be in the mix for a team, even as early as the inaugural season:

Welcome tweet has been posted. Based on videos, I assume colours will be the two shades of blue and white!

To update, apparently all that could stand in the way of Victoria having a team is...

a BC hydro telephone pole?

I'm really glad cities presented with pro teams are getting franchises! Looking forward to Victoria, Halifax and hopefully one day Waterloo region and either Oshawa or London!

Halifax Wanderers FC website is now active, which appears to confirm the name being announced tomorrow.

The HFX Wanderers FC emblem is as unique as our history. Featuring the Halifax Citadel as it’s foundation, the emblem is an acknowledgment to our city on the sea.

The Halifax Citadel, completed in 1856, is officially called Fort George and is among the first buildings constructed as a wooden guardhouse on top of what would eventually be called Citadel Hill. Today, the Halifax Citadel watches over the city’s downtown core; a reminder of Halifax’s past and no longer as a military fortification.

The Macdonald bridge, named after former Nova Scotia Premier Angus Lewis Macdonald is the second landmark that inspired our emblem. Opening in 1955, the bridge gave communities in Halifax and Dartmouth an efficient transportation link across the Halifax Harbour.

The harbour sparked the club’s motto Ar Cala, Ar Dachaigh, Ar n-Anam, which means “Our Harbour, Our Home, Our Soul” in Gaelic.

The Atlantic Ocean is also featured on the emblem with a ‘W’ woven in the club’s name and on the Wanderers Ground. In addition to an anchor sitting on the base of the crest to signify the regions nautical history. Located in the heart of Halifax’s historic waterfront, there’s no better place to learn about marine heritage than the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. It’s the oldest and largest naval museum in Canada where visitors are introduced to a collection of over 30,000 artifacts including 70 small craft and a steamship called the CSS Acadia.

The inspiration in our name was chosen by the famous grounds at Halifax commons. Land that was granted by King George lll “for the use of the inhabitants of the Town of Halifax forever.” Today, over half of the Halifax Commons remains as public open space for residents to play sports and enjoy activities with family and friends. It will also be home to HFX Wanderers FC, a prime location that many people in Halifax have an affinity for.

Our city’s identity is expressed by three colours:

Aqua Ocean, represented by the Atlantic Ocean, a beautiful body of water that impacts our lives and brings us together.

The Naval Grey is represented in our city’s proud Royal Canadian Navy, one of the largest employers in the Halifax area.

Harbour Blue is also part of our club’s palette, a colour that is signified by the region’s steel-toned skies and harbour.

“Our Harbour, Our Home, Our Soul”

Horrible (IMHO) acronym aside, the potential for that double-blue wave motif as their kit design has me salivating 🐳

I don’t know what’s the deal with HFX. Acronyms or nicknames sound more badass when they include a “x” so I guess that’s the reason.

It's common to use airport codes in the US like PDX or STL. YVR comes up a lot here in Vancouver too.

Canada has many horrible airport codes like YYZ (city name contains 0 of these letters) and YHZ (city name contains 1 of these letters). HFX is a fake 3-letter abbreviation that doesn't correspond to anything but at least is recognizable.

It's meaningless jargon, but all the same, YYZ has become a pretty beloved acronym.

Winnipeg is the next city to be unveiled: https://twitter.com/CPLsoccer/status...840635904?s=19

Looks like they're going to do a gold and black colour scheme. Hamilton's gonna be upset.

Now Edmonton....

https://twitter.com/CPLsoccer/status/989807825932242944

So that is 7....do they get to 8 or 10?

Who's left potenially

Ottawa seems the most logical to move from the USL
Regina or Saskatoon
Quebec City
Southern Ontario - Windsor / London
Moncton

Personally I think it will be 8 to start

Winnipeg name to be Valour FC. Web site already set-up but is "coming soon", probably after the official announcement tomorrow.

Not Moncton anyway, not this year.

Soccer NB has been trying to drum up interest, and we already have a 10,000 seat stadium all set to go, but there is no shining knight investor out there to get things going.

We might get a team eventually if the league is a success, but it will likely take a few years at least.

There is no talk whatsoever of a Premier team in London, Ontario. I would love to see that happen and to be a successful league you would think they would want to be in the K/W, London size markets and have good rivalry's, but I am sure the issue would be a potential owner stepping up and also having a decent stadium to play in.

London has supported the Knights of the OHL and Lightning of the NBL very strongly and I think a soccer team could do well as there is jack squat to do in this town and an evening out supporting another team could do very well.

Regina would be up against the Riders, not sure about that. Saskatoon doesn't have much in the way of summer sports so maybe? Not sure where they would play.

Not enough noise out of those regions for next year I think, as much as I think it would be great for Saskatoon to get in. League is probably trying to work out some kinks with Ottawa for the 8th team. There was some rumor and hearsay about St. John's but I'm extremely skeptical on that front.
