Oh, downtown, I take back all of those negative things I ever said about you!

Thanks for this spectacular thread. Lots of life!

I can't believe the Roberts Tower is real-- someone pinch me. I am really impressed with Citygarden too. It turned Gateway Mall (one of the worst urban blunders in American history) into something wonderful. Great thread!

Mama's is a new shop around Washington and 10th street.

She decided to open shop there instead of on "the Hill" (STL's Little Italy) because she thinks downtown is the place to be and that "The Hill" is too overloaded with shops, cafe's, restaurants as it is.

She is selling imported Italian cosmetics, toiletries (Men and Women), jewelery, wines, baked items, etc...

Very cute shop.

Grand Opening for her shop is on July 4th.

I think another goal of her's is to promote Saint Louis' Italian heritage to out-of-towners, and to draw their attention to the Hill. Most non-natives aren't aware of the place, just as they're not too aware of out many other bitchin' hoods. Many out-of-towners don't ever leave downtown, which is a bit of a shame.

I think the store plans to bring the flavor of "The Hill" neighborhood to downtown to do just that "showcase STL's Italian history, culture and district" while offering a taste of Italy too. Many items in the new store will be from Italian producers as well as home town Italian makers on "The Hill".

The store plans to have Italian wine tastings too --mmmmmm.

What is this building? Is it finished? I would assume not, but I was in StL this weekend and totally missed it. Great pics BTW.

HEY GRID;

Thaks for the comments - coming from you (photo professional) I am grateful.

As for the tower in that pic. That is the new Roberts Residential Tower. Condos being built downtown at around 8th and St. Charles next to the Orpheum Theatre and new Old Post Office plaza. Caddy Corner is the new Schucks Culinaria Grocery store (opening in August) and the new Left Bank Books.

When completed it will be 350 feet, 25-30 stories.

The pics above were this week.

Look at the skyline in this pic... to the right is a crane in the pic - that is this highrise going up.

What a great looking city. I can't imagine who wouldn't want to be there, especially in that beautiful weather. I'm also digging the public art, there seems to be a fair amount of it.

City plaza looks even better at night. Yeah, this is one good looking vibrant city. I'm loving the brick canyons. This better not be your last StL. thread.
