Smart corridors

In the Nashville Metro, a Smart Corridor project is to begin development soon from Nashville to Murfreesboro to utilize all the capacity available in the I-24 corridor include US 41A. The project was first conceived nine years ago and budgeted, but is just now becoming a reality.

A good presentation of this project is available on YOUTUBE.

YOUTUBE.

The project will cost 37 million, but widening I-24 would no doubt cost hundreds of millions. So basically adding the four lanes on 41A to the existing I-24 as a coordinated, real time operated system is a high value to cost idea. An overview.

And yes, the traffic signals will coordinated and interconnected on 41A.
Brilliant idea!

Smart motorways have become a common fixture in the UK in recent years; all-lane running with variable speed limits are currently in use across the busiest sections of six motorways. By 2025 there will be fifteen motorways across the UK with all-lane running. It makes a lot of sense considering the cost of widening schemes and I can see it eventually spanning the entire UK motorway network eventually.
