even though its taking so long to get this project going, I would rather see this project slowly done right than quickly assembled half hazardly. Be patient it will happen and I am sure the historic society is keen on doing this baby right, the staff wants nothing but the best for the project. That I can guarantee from what I saw historic reps Cindy Tugwell & Jeanne Perreault informational session this past summer.

hard to tell... the Encana project sat in waiting fir a long time, but this project hasn't broke yet either. So far it is little more than secrets and rumours.

At least Encana annouced that they planned on building there own tower... everyone just had to wait for the design.

Just remember the Hydro tower..

2002: Winnipeg Hydro sold to MB Hydro on promise to build a new downtown office

2004: Downtown site selected
2005: Drawings released
2006: Construction
2007: Building complete?

I imagine for 100 Main...

2007: Various redevelopment proposals announced
2008: By this time we will know the winning proposal and design of the building
2009: Construction
2010 - 2011: Building is ready for occupancy.

Be patient everybody.

impatient.

At least with the Encana tower we knew that the tower was guaranteed to go up (more or less). The 100 Main St project could still end up as another park or historical site.

well it could be, or how about a mixture of condos ontop of historical interpretive centers.

I would prefer an office tower.

Does Winnipeg really need more museums and I have heard that downtown condos arent exactly selling all that well. There are still a number of riverfront condos available.

An office tower will get more people working (and potentially living) in the downtown core. Condos will remain empty until people start working downtown.

Considering I've heard numbers in the $300,000 range, I'm highly impressed that these are selling AT ALL. It speaks volumes on how much Winnipeg has improved in just the past few years that a condo would even sell for that, let alone in the downtown.

Give it time, and unless this is just a short-lived yuppie fad, you'll see plenty of sold-out condos downtown.

It's interesting the price points that Waterfront Drive is getting. They're certainly expensive relative to the rest of the market, but reasonable value. The market at that level is only so deep however. If there were more modest units built, in particular one bedroom or 700 sq ft lofts for $125-$200k you'd see a lot more activity.

60,000 people already work downtown. The number one priority right now should be to have more people living downtown. If demand is low they should add improvements like more parks, improved public spaces and better transit access to make it more desirable
