Any update on "Resort World"? I was in Vegas 3 times this year and kept driving past it on the strip. My last trip this new years, either I was drunk or it didn't seem like much has changed?

Also forgive me for saying this but was checking out the "Alon" drawings.....Why is Vegas allowing developers to go the boring route when it comes to the hotels on the strip ? I see the "Alon" project only lasting 20 years before its torn down for something better. And 1000 rooms only ??? Seems more like infill than a major competitor type resort for the strip. Resort World next door will overshadow it greatly.

From what I am seeing is that Alon is trying to get the clients from Wynn and Encore. And they're also going for a less is more approach when it comes to amenities. Right now the strip is saturated with hotel rooms but there is still expansion being made with convention space. Mandalay Bay just finished and opened their convention center expansion and Aria just announced they are going to close the Zarkana show to expand for more conventions as well. Not to mention the new arena behind NYNY and new theater next to Monte Carlo that has been planned, also Monte Carlo will change its name and theme to compete with Cosmopolitan. As for Resorts World, right now they are working on the garage on Dean Martin (Industrial) Road towards the back, they broke ground back in May and there still isn't much activity on the main building. They have been saying that activity happens during the night when it is cooler, during the summer, but summer is coming back along soon. If I don't see a crane by the summer of 2016 I will consider Resorts World a dud in my opinion. The company for RW hasn't had a good track record with opening resorts because they have one in Baha Mar that is still not finished I have heard. As for Fontainebleau, that building has been put for sale since early December for about $600 million. That pretty much sums up what is going on on the Strip. Also the Riviera has been closed but the convention center, who bought it, hasn't announced a demolition date as of yet. SLS has been completely taken over to Stockbridge, it used to be an SBE property, but now Stockbridge runs and owns the property with naming rights for the SLS brand and W Hotels has announced to turn one of the towers into a W Hotel. SLS has not made a profit since opening back in August 2014. Also, I almost forgot, there is a new small casino hotel opening next to the Allure called Lucky Dragon, a Chinese themed hotel, an opening date hasn't been announced yet but they have topped out the 8 story building already and almost has it covered in the red glass. Here is some photos, one is the rendering of Alon and the other of the Lucky Dragon.

Multifamily housing project planned for downtown Las Vegas

Multifamily housing project planned for downtown Las Vegas

By Matthew Crowley
Special to the Review-Journal

The Wolff Co., a Scottsdale, Arizona, real estate acquisition and development company, said it will partner with 901 Fremont LLC, a Downtown Project affiliate, to develop a mixed-use multifamily housing project on 1.3 acres at the intersection of Ninth and Fremont streets in downtown Las Vegas.

In a statement, Wolff Co. said the proposed five-story, podium-style building, dubbed Fremont & 9th, will include 231 units and 15,000 square feet of retail space along Fremont Street. The proposed project will be a block from downtown Container Park and a short walk from the Fremont Street Experience.

The Las Vegas-based Korte Co. will be general contractor. It's to start in the next 30 days.

The project's cost and projected completion date weren't disclosed.

This is the reason Resorts World has been going so slow....they were waiting for Clark County to give their seal of approval....which just happenbed this past week.

Clark County commissioners gave developers of Resorts World Las Vegas the go-ahead Wednesday to move forward on the $4 billion hotel-casino project.

Without discussion — the item was approved on the Zoning Commission's consent agenda — the board signed off the site entitlements for the 87.8 acre north Strip location. Plans call for Resorts World to house more than 7,000 hotel rooms, suites and villas with four high-rise hotels and an arena/conference center.

Malaysia-based Genting Berhad plans to move forward with an initial phase calling for a hotel tower with 3,307 rooms and suites and more than 657,000 square feet of public space, including a movie theater and convention facilities.

Resorts World Las Vegas General Counsel Gerald Gardner said commission approval "was a significant step in the project," which has sat dormant since Boyd Gaming Corp. halted the Echelon development in August 2008. Genting purchased the site, once home to the Stardust, in 2013 for $350 million.

Construction workers have been finishing the parking garages in anticipation of a full-scale construction project commencing this summer.

Light rail for Vegas????

Quote:
How much more volume can the Strip handle before it can’t move visitors around effectively? What about a local population of 2.5 million or more? Local tourism and transportation leaders are having a serious discussion about the need to make major infrastructure changes to stave off a traffic armageddon. Light rail can be the solution.

“It’s really hard to even start a conversation about how you move people in the numbers we’re talking about without immediately having a light rail or a mass-transit conversation,” said Tina Quigley, general manager of the Regional Transportation Commission. Light rail could move more visitors much faster than expanded roads could. “At some point, you have as many cars on a road as you can physically handle,” Applied Analysis principal analyst Jeremy Aguero said.

Moreover, a light rail line could be an experience for visitors, providing them a way to take in the sights, much like the High Roller observation wheel.

Key to making such a project happen, of course, is support from the resort industry. At a recent meeting with U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx, organized by U.S. Rep. Dina Titus, D-Nev., numerous resort executives were interested in hearing more about a light rail project in Charlotte, N.C., where Foxx had served as mayor. And Virginia Valentine, president of the Nevada Resort Association, has said members understand the Strip’s congestion problem and are open to solutions.

Nevada Supreme Court

Las Vegas Review Journal

(Article from August 2015)

Quote:
The Nevada Supreme Court is about to pave over one of downtown Las Vegas’ few remaining parking paradises.

The City Council on Wednesday approved blueprints for a long-planned Supreme Court building at Clark Avenue and Fourth Street, one that would be built on top of about five dozen city-owned parking spaces near the court’s soon-to-be former home at the Regional Justice Center.

The new 26,600-square-foot building will come complete with a natural stone facade, entryway columns, a golden cupola atop a copper patina dome and some onsite parking. Construction on the building is expected to start in October and wrap up by December 2016.

If anything, I always thought it was rather dumb that Vegas allowed the hotels to create mini segments of monorail through their own properties (Mandalay Bay/Luxor/Excalibur) and ( The Mirage/Treasure Island), while it built a totally separate operating monorail for the opposite side of the Strip that cut through the back of the resorts but still managed to miss most of the resorts.

A pretty straightforward monorail should have been built. From the airport, and hopefully future Stadium/NFL site, to the strip and went down the center of the strip where it turned towards downtown and ended it downtown and the rail station. Easy.

or build 2 segments where it started at the Airport/stadium, reach the strip where it splits off so that one side services one side of the strip while the other services the opposite side, when both sides reached the Stratosphere, have them merge back together and end at downtown/rail station.

I always thought Nevada/Vegas was a state rolling in gambling money (taxed gambling money I mean) to the point where infrastructure issues should have been easily paid.

Wynn Resorts planning $1.5B expansion for Las Vegas Strip property

http://www.reviewjournal.com/busines...strip-property

Quote:
Wynn Resorts is considering a 1,000-room expansion at its Strip property centered around a 38-acre lagoon that would host water skiing, paddle boarding and parasailing by day and fireworks displays at night.

The project, tentatively called Wynn Paradise Park, would cost about $1.5 billion to build and open in 2020 if work begins later this year as planned.

Wynn Chairman and CEO Steve Wynn described the plan at a company investment conference Wednesday.

“We have a chance to reinvent Las Vegas and make the whole venue an entertainment attraction … an idyllic beach paradise surrounded by white sand beaches,” Wynn told investors. “People come to Las Vegas from all over the world to live large and have a good time and we can dish up an irresistible entertainment attraction.”

The project would have to be approved by the Wynn board of directors. For weeks, there have been reports that Wynn was considering a new development on golf course land adjacent to the resort that would take advantage of the city’s strong meetings and conventions industry.

Wynn Paradise Park, which would also add 260,000 square feet of meeting space and guest suites with a separate bedroom, living room and balcony with unobstructed views of the waterfront, would be built on the 130-acre, 18-hole Wynn Golf Club.

A 1,000-room tower and a variety of food and beverage outlets, including the expansion of the current Country Club restaurant, also are in the plans.

Here are two fun new projects proposed for the strip.

The Mars thing looks very unlikely, but the Mayan thing sounds possible:

Mars Resort:

Mayan Resort:

The location shown below is inaccurate. Apparently there is a large resort company backing this one which means it could be real project. More details are supposed to be released soon. This looks pretty fun, hopefully something comes of it:

The Strip is technically not in Vegas but in Paradise. The monorail travels through Paradise and Winchester.

The Las Vegas Monorail is a 3.9-mile (6.3 km) monorail mass transit system located adjacent to the Las Vegas Strip, in Clark County, Nevada, United States. It connects several large casinos in the unincorporated communities of Paradise and Winchester, and does not enter the City of Las Vegas. It is owned and operated by the Las Vegas Monorail Company. Total annual ridership is currently about 4.2 million, down from a peak of 7.9 million in 2007. The monorail is a registered not-for-profit corporation, allowed under Nevada law since the monorail provides a public service. The State of Nevada assisted in bond financing, but no public money was used in construction; citizens may eventually have to pay taxes that fund the monorail.
