hkskyline's 2017 in Fire Red Kyoto

Fall comes around November in this part of the world, and when it does, the city turns red. Similar to the spring counterpart for cherry blossoms, the fall foliage experience in Kyoto is organized, tidy, but still very crowded.

Kiyomizu-dera Temple is already a popular pilgrimmage site for tourists. Despite scaffolding for restoration works, this place was still bursting with people.

Located just outside the main historic centre, a long line waited to get into Tofukuji before opening.

More of the same at Nanzenji.

Good heavens! That's really all one can say...

I know that people associate Japan with spring and the cherry blossoms, but I've always associated it with the autumn. It's probably because in my formative teen years, like everybody else in the late 90's, I went through an anime phase and I and my cousin got hold of a cache of anime during one particularly colorful October. Plus, one anime's plot revolved around it being autumn as well. Thus, though everyone else thinks of spring when they think of Japan, and I even visited Japan during the summer... In my mind it's eternally late October in Japan.

Loved Kyoto hikes in the fall.

Truly magical to walk through the woods in Japan... especially on Hokkaido if you get some fresh snow to pair with it.

Eikando looked impressive already outside. It tempted me to pay the admission fee to explore more inside the walls.

Shinnyodo is an easy walk uphill into a secluded forest.
