I guess that must have been a hot summer in 1978. It looks more crowded there then I think I've ever seen it, at least in recent years.

And, Mike, I hope you don't mind. I edited your post to add a "spoiler" tag to hide the topless photo with a "NSFW" (not safe for work) warning. Typically we don't allow topless photos on the forum, but I think as long as they're hidden like this it should be ok. Plus, if you can see that in public in Austin it shouldn't be a huge shock here. It's not something that bothers me, but I wouldn't want anyone to get in trouble at work for it.

Oh that's fine. I wondered if I should even post it, but I figured if it was in Texas Monthly (not Playboy) it would be ok. I really didn't even post it to show the boobies - It was more to show the other side where the older lady has the binoculars, which I thought was hilarious.

Yeah, that's pretty funny. Is she a prude or a creep?

Speaking of boobies, I did the world naked bike ride over the weekend. The ride was smaller this year, maybe 250 to 300 bikes, but it seemed like more people were living up to the ride's name if you know what I mean.

How do I copy pictures from my iPhoto set to this site; I have a couple of scanned photos of Barton Springs I took my last summer in Austin - 1965 - that I'd be happy to share. It was idyllic back then.

Here's the same view today.

Yeah, after WWII, they started covering up the facades of older buildings on Congress with hideous "modern" things. Glad to see that some of them are being removed.

Are these photos on your phone or computer? If they're full sized photos you should re-size them before uploading and posting.

Once you've re-sized them with a photo editor, you need to upload them to the internet. I like to use http://imgur.com/ It's free. You can upload without an account, but it's best to create one (it's free) since you'll be able to add and edit albums later.

Then once your photos are uploaded you need to grab the image tags for each one to post on the forum. When you click on one of the photos, it's going to list the image tag types on the right. You want the BBcode tag. That's what the forum uses. All you need to do is copy and paste (right click) the links into your message on the forum.

What strikes me the most about old photos of downtown is how few trees there were. Most of the people who are against the development in downtown swear it's the opposite, but then again photos don't lie.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. The photos are scanned snapshots, though. I hope they come through.

Gotta cut down the trees to make way for the scaffolding so they can do those horrible 60s renovations. I doubt that's really the reason, but I can't see how anyone would disagree that the street experience in downtown now is better than it was back then. That top photo shows an environment that appears sterile and artificial.

Now that's a cool street sign, love the lights on top. I wonder what a 'tourist facility' is.

I think it's where out-of-towners are allowed to go to the bathroom.

Found this on a fb Austin group I belong to. I'm guessing that's the Norwood u/c? Also, thought I might have seen the first pic on a thread here before, but this restaurant on S. Lamar back in the 50s was apparently the Franklin's of its time.
