It's a shame they built a hotel, and especially a parkade at the Forks to begin with. The last thing the Forks needs is another hotel. The City should keep construction of new downtown hotels on the other side of Main Street, where there is plenty of vacant space (larking lots, etc) to accommodate it.

That I did not know. I keep hearing rumors that the CMHR was encroaching on either an old Native burial ground, or a 19th century cemetery, that just happened to have a significant percentage of First Nations people. It's neat that they found artifacts that suggest the Aboriginals settled at the Forks, and it was not merely a place where they would stopover for a few days.

You should have named the thread "Canadian Museum of Burlesque Dancing." That is something, as Manitobans, we could all get behind.

I hope it's on TSN nationwide. I'm in a work camp in Alberta, so we do not have the luxury of receiving TSN Jets.

I've always found it strange that we in North America seem to tie so much importance to this. In much of the world, EVERYWHERE is "old burial grounds".

After 100 billion people live and die, there ain't much real estate left. Go ask Parisians about it.

One of the coolest random things I saw when I first visited England was a kid's playground built amongst crumbling tombstones (from the 15-1600s). You quickly realize that we can't just reserve "burial grounds" forever, unless you want the entire planet to look like a cemetery.

Never thought of it this way before, it does put a different perspective on it, it does make you go..hmmm...very true if you look at the big picture.

It's not uncommon to find things that have been built on old burying grounds in eastern North America. Two hundred years is a long time.....

Here it's common to see people using cemeteries for walking and jogging, but the kind of "living room" use I've seen people make of them in the UK shocks me a bit (lounging on a tomb smoking a cig strikes me as disrespectful).

Holy shit, another 11 months? Man, how long is that now, 2 years over due?

Glad they have a date though. It is going to be amazing.

That's pretty much the date I'd choose -- after the tourist season at a slow time of year -- if I wanted to allow for the possibility of additional delays.

Meh, doesn't interest me. Nothing against it, just sounds like a bland theme to me.

Understandable. The theme and content, not everyone's cup of tea.

For those interested in Architecture, worth a look.
