That is awesome, I am really excited about this one....but probably because I have been so wanting to see this site developed for so long. Back when I use to live in the southern end of downtown, I would walk past this block almost every day and just imagine what would finally get built there....that and how I missed the easiest gas station in the world for me to get to.

Portland's next office tower breaks ground this week

A quiet downtown Portland block is about to be a lot less so.

On Friday, BPM Real Estate Group, the developer behind the recently completed Pearl West office building, will break ground on its next project, Broadway Tower, a 19-story office and hotel tower. Located on a property owned by the Goodman family at the corner of Southwest Broadway and Columbia, the 430,000-square-foot building will include 175,000 square feet of office space, 247 underground parking spaces and a 180-room Radisson RED hotel.

Minnesota-based Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group will manage the hotel portion of the project, which will occupy the lower eight floors. The office portion will start on the ninth floor. Outdoor patios will be included on the top three floors.

Makes me wish I still lived down the road from this building, would have been fun watching it go up. I will definitely have to make a point of going to see it from time to time. From what I have seen, the design looks very clean and simple, and should stand out nicely in that part of downtown. It will also be interesting what an office building/hotel building does for the southern part of Broadway.

It's official: Construction on Portland's next office and hotel tower has begun (Photos)

A brief shower delayed the golden shovel photo op, but once the skies dried up, investors, executives and other stakeholders gathered around BPM Real Estate Group's CEO, Walter Bowen, for the official groundbreaking of Broadway Tower on Friday morning.

The event marked the official start of construction on the 19-story tower that will rise from the corner of Southwest Columbia and Broadway. Demolition work has already made quick work of the former Oregonians Credit Union building that had been on part of the property, which is owned locally by the Goodman family.

Hooray! That lot has been vacant for over a decade if I'm not mistaken. I don't even remember how many years have passed since the gas station there closed. This will be such a welcome improvement to the neighborhood!

And it only took 10 years for that hole to be dug. I have been waiting for this building since they closed down that gas station. I am so excited for this tower, but I wish I still lived right down the road so I could have watched it going up each day on my walks to and from work....so much for that.

Another rendering of the Broadway Tower. This one focuses on the Radisson portion of this building, showing the hotel lobby, bar, meeting areas, balconies, and a sample hotel room:

I walked by this site last week, I was surprised to see how deep they have gone with this. I am really looking forward to seeing this building going up....I have waited a really long time for this development.

Is there a plan for the empty lot next to park blocks. I'm always amazed that we still have lots along these blocks that don't have buildings or something of value.
