NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ | The Gateway | 298 FT | 25 Floors

Working with the City of New Brunswick, the NJ Department of Transportation, NJTransit, and Amtrak, Devco has crafted a plan for a major redevelopment project on the block just north of the New Brunswick Train Station. The Gateway features an innovative mixed-use design comprising structured parking, a destination bookstore along with other considerable retail spaces, and a significant residential component. The facility will rise 295 feet above the train station, and will be directly connected to the Northeast corridor rail line platform by way of a sweeping pedestrian promenade. To maintain the current balance and scale of the redevelopment area, the 16-story luxury residence tower will be set back upon the retail podium. The unique façade of The Gateway was designed to enhance the adjacent historic setting of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church and the nearby original historic Old Queen's campus of Rutgers. Devco is also working with the city's Historical Association to preserve some of the unique facades of the older buildings currently on site. By transforming the declining neighborhood adjacent to the train station through this high-density, mixed-use redevelopment project, Devco anticipates substantial benefits for New Brunswick. When completed, The Gateway will be the city's tallest building.

anticipated completion: 2011
location: Somerset Street and Easton Avenue, adjacent to
the Northeast Corridor train line
size: 623,893 sq. ft on a 1.2 acre parcel, 298 ft. in height
occupancy: 200 residential units (222,123 sq. ft., 15 stories), destination retail
including new University book store, premier restaurants and shops,
656-space parking structure on nine levels
developer: Devco / Keating Urban Partners
architect: Ehrenkrantz Eckstut & Kuhn Architects
investment: $150 million

-I drove past the site today, and the steel framing is about 1-2 stories high.

Does that parking garage attach right to the station? If so that would be sweet. I use that station pretty often.

Oh, so this is where this building is.

I suppose I could jump off the train at New Brunswick sometime and get some pictures. Steel looks to be about three stories off the ground.

Yeah, I see the construction all the time, that crane is the tallest thing in NB. It seems that the building is progressing quickley. Cant wait till this is done. I heard that the parking garage should be open by December and the rest of it by 2012
