I never knew that about the one left tail light CBD.

Three bridesmaids. I thought to myself, there must be a church nearby. (clever, huh )

ebay

Yep there it is, Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church at S. Main and 87th Place....many years later.

I'm not sure I'd want to get married in a church named Mother of Sorrows.

I'm trying to stitch the two photos together horizontally (the 2nd photo keeps posting below the other)

This is the building in the distance that had the extremely tall rooftop sign. It's on the NW corner of Western and Santa Monica Blvd.

Ocean Park bathing beauties take a day trip to the mountains to frolic in the snow.

above: I just noticed they're not all from Ocean Park. There's one from Santa Monica and one from Venice...and I can't read the other one.

The license plate reads correctly in the top photo, too.

I just wanted to point out that the Google street view is already outdated. Those Wilshire street lamps, which date from the later 1950s I believe, replaced the earlier 1920s Beverly Hills Wilshire Specials.

But in 2011, they were all replaced with newer lumières and poles, which are not cast iron, but the metal that is used in modern lamp posts (aluminum?). Even the ornate bases were recreated, but in aluminum, and lacking the concrete slab. The teardrop lumières, in my opinion, though having more character than standard modern ones, somehow look like the generic "fake old street lamps" that many cities have been using in the last 15 years or so; in other words, that look, in my opinion, is starting to get played out.

Here's a pic I took of the Saks in Beverly Hills in 2011, the day after Thanksgiving. Hehe I wanted to see what Bev Hills was like on Black Friday. The shoppers were actually all quite well-behaved. Anyway, you can see the new street lamps in the pic.

Awesome! That was quintessentially 1970...in every detail. Thanks for posting it!

It's fun with the Nilsson soundtrack, but I couldn't resist watching it a second time while listening to Steppenwolf's 'Born To Be Wild'.

Oh my, the owners added decorative wrought iron onto the house to match the fence.
(maybe the fence co. persuaded them to do it...God only knows)

Tiny dormers, grotesque ironwork--great details, ER. The Monte Sano Hospital--an osteopathic sanitarium, not that I really have ever figured out what an osteopath is--are there still any? Seems like a very noir occupation. Anyway, the joint was at the n/e corner of Glendale Blvd and Waverly Drive....

GW, any news on why the Monte Sano was demolished? It was still there in 1980 (below), but Google Earth shows that it had gone by 1989. The lot appears to have been empty ever since.

ER, Bruce, posted the lovely card about the Chateau Marmont. This inspired me to find an interior shot of the building. This is the only thing I could find with a quick search. This is obviously a kitchen inside the building. I'll try to find some more. Here we see a very nice stove and a clock on the wall. Rice Krispies.....anyone?

I found this postcard which appears to depict the same house. The site gives no more info than the caption at the top.
