Holy shit, mind fucking boggling.
I definitely had a face palm moment with that one. The whole point of the bridge is to get people out of their damn cars, if you don't like it because you can't drive across it or park right beside it to walk across it then you are missing the point and should keep your ass in the suburbs.

HAHA, that is what they said about the Winnipeg bridge.......now it has revitalized an entire area. The driving culture will never understand walking to get places...oh well, their loss.

1. Calgary is not a walking city..........

3. There is no parking near the bridge......

Seriously, why do we even build pedestrian bridges in the suburbs if this is how people feel????????????????????????????????????? let them live in their own misery.

Calgary IS a walking city. I have done it since I moved here and it has dramatically improved the quality of my life. Walking is the only way to discover a city and feel part of it. She sounds like she smokes a pack a day and never walks anywhere. Wake up woman......jeez.

Yeah, she was just so smug about the whole thing......"Calgary is not a walking city" she said.......I wonder why if this is how people think.

Luckily, this summer is going to be game changer for the inner city. It is going to be a hot summer and people now have places to sit and ponder....instead of just moving through. I bet we will see more people on the pathways than EVER.

I listened too. That really irks me. Even if we made the argument that in general, Calgary is not a walking city, it doesn't mean we shouldn't provide infrastructure for those who do walk. Calgary isn't a Bowling city either, and yet we have bowling alleys.

Hahaha. Yes!!

I think that quote sums up the true reason why this bridge has become the controversy that it is. You can drum it up to sole-sourcing, a fancy starchitect, non-Canadian, or location, but the fact of the matter is that these things were applied to a piece of infrastructure not meant for the vehicle and not understood by a lot of Calgarians. Spin it any which way you like, that is what is at the bottom of this. It's a bridge for walking/cycling - it just so happened to have come with a few other external negative incidentals . Had the same occured for road infrastructure...

I can't wait till this thing is open and everyone stops bitching about it. It's a gorgeous bridge and will be a landmark in the city for a long time to come.

Calatrava says he is not to blame for bridge delays.

I hope he can come back and do more work in this city in the future, his touch is something Calgary could definitely use more of.

Nice image, it really highlights the structure of the bridge.

The original designs for the landscaping and the approach to the bridge were really nice. they flowed really well with pedestrian movement and included gathering spaces on both sides of the river.

I dont think many people ever got to see those plans. With the budget being over, I think the goal now is to just connect the bridge to the existing path. That would be unfortunate, because I feel the landscaping is really half of the bridge project in terms of importance.

The landscape will come through at some point in one shape or another. We cant just have a bunch of weeds and sporatic grass growing near this thing.

I will donate a tree and plant it myself if I have to.
