100%, Scheer is pretty low appeal, but if Trudeau continues on his current path he could hand it to Scheer, or at least come out of it badly bruised.

And speaking of Harper, it was noticed that he congratulated odious Hungarian PM/strongman/authoritarian Viktor Orban on his re-election.

Birds of a feather.

And Harper’s brand of Conervatism rears it’s ugly head again. Parliament came so close to unanimous consent on a motion asking Roman Catholic church leaders to ask again for the pope to apologize for the RC involvement in residential schools, but a lone Alberta Tory MP couldn’t get out of the 1950s.

After Bernier`s announcement today, I guess this thread is almost over?

Who will replace Harper? Well now the only answer is Trudeau, again. Bernier has sealed a Trudeau majority in 2020. After the Tory lose and the NDP being wiped off the map {which they richly deserve after voting in Singh}, the real questions now becomes: Who will replace Sheer and Singh?

And they narrowly rejected an attempt to reopen the abortion debate. Same old Tories.

This Garnett guy's face has the same 'doesn't inspire confidence' quality as Scheer's. I guess when you have an ideology that's incoherent and dishonest about itself, or really an ideology that is solely meant to slow the inevitable progress of another, competing ideology, you only get weirdos, nerds, and grifters signing up.

You've changed man. All your posts used to be thoughtful. Now your commenting on someone's facial appearance? And name calling?

Indeed. Perhaps this post was just a temporary slip on his part. Maybe he was having a bad night.

In any event, by this metric, politics shouldn't be a calling for the maladroit or bespectacled, and should only be reserved for the attractive and the vacuous. I guess this is why we are currently saddled with JT..........

Politics - only the swoonworthy should apply.

This is why I think Bernier is going to do more damage to the Tories than the Conservatives are {publicly and privately} willing to admit. Bernier is more of a libertarian than Conservative in the classic sense. He believes government should get out of both business and people`s lives and the latter being just as important. He does not feel that the government has any duty or right to interfere with people`s personal choices or lifestyles unlike social conservatives who feel the exact opposite.

This difference is very significant because a more pro-business and socially progressive stance is much more in line with Tory supporters in Quebec, Atlantic, and Ontario. The social conservative caucus is overwhelmingly from the West which is like preaching to the converted. Those Eastern votes however are crucial for the Tories and a splitting of the Conservative vote in PQ/Ont/Atl would decimate the Tories and sweep the Liberals back into a majority possibly bigger than they have now. The Tories are a rather odd mixture of social conservatives and libertarians often with very conflicting views but united by the fact that they want to defeat the Liberals but often little else. A split in either those constituencies will be their undoing in Central/East and this is made even better by highly incompetent Singh heading the NDP.

A split in the Ont/PQ/Atl vote could bring us back to the days of the 1970s where the Liberals sweep that vote rich region and the election is decided before Manitoban polls even close.

Yep, they also adopted a motion to move the embassy to Jerusalem, following Strumpf's cretinous edict.
Still, if we must in the not-too-distant future have a Conservative government federally, and I'm not saying we must, I'd rather it be led by someone like Scheer than someone like Bernier. Having said that, there's a nagging "wolf in sheep's clothes" quality to Scheer. His dimpled "aw, shucks" amiability might be genuine or a facade. Harper's callousness and malevolence were undisguised.

See, if this kind of comment were made regarding a woman, it would be deemed sexist and misogynistic, and slammed by many around here. But because it's not, these disgusting kinds of comments are permitted, apparently.

Guess double-standards hold true in all regards.

That's why I believe a clawback of sorts on various forms of social progress is a definite possibility.

I don't think that most of the fundamental gay rights that have been won will be touched, but stuff that's a bit more "out there" (in the view of the average joe) like trans-friendly language and extreme gender neutrality might be up for grabs.

And I am just talking about sexual identity here. There are other areas too of course.
