NEW £10 BILLION ($16 billion) SKYSCRAPER CLUSTER

A new skyscraper cluster is to be built in the old oak common district in London, the development, revealed today, includes a new football stadium, shopping malls, movie theatres, restaurants and a new skyscraper cluster the size of canary wharf, the planning documents were submitted today and will be approved by the summer, so London will soon have yet another great cluster

LIME STREET TOWER (city of london) 193m U/C

The tower cranes have been erected at the lime street tower site. The 193m tower, named (the scalpel) because of its angular glass shape and crystal facade, is being constructed in the 'city' cluster, one of londons financial and business districts. The tower is being built by American insurance company W.R BERKLEY, their chief executive said that the global insurance industry is, now more than ever, based in London, and has been for a long time, but recently has increased with speed and scale that it is now unquestionably the place to be if you are a global insurance company,where the companies like to congregate together, so they are with and surrounded by the other insurers and having the critical mass of experienced and professionals,and W.R BERKLEY needed to be there aswell. Another big American insurance company AON recently moved their global headquarters from chicago to London, a big french insurer just moved their global headquarters from paris to london, and similar companies from German and other companies from other countries, have relocated their global headquarters to London. Financial and insurarance experts say that all the big insurance companies want to consolidate and be located near all the other insurance companies, and that place is London. The 'city' part of London has long been the co global financial Capitol with New York, but recently the incredible rise of the insurance sector is amazing, London was allready a major insurance industry centre, but over the last five years it has risen to the top so fast, all the insurance companies want to be there. Most of the skyscrapers used to be for banks, hedge funds and investment bankers, they are still building skyscrapers aswell, but the explosion of recent towers has been equally because of the insurance industry. Many of the city cluster towers going up are insurance towers, the best ones being the AON cheese grater tower and W.R BERKLEY, scalpel tower, and many more. The following towers are all insurance company towers.

HEATHROW AIRPORT EXPANSION LONDON

After recently spending £11 billion ($17 billion) on new developments and the two new heathrow super terminals, including the huge multi billion pounds terminal five and the multi £billion pounds terminal two, heathrow is now investing another £3 billion pounds ($5 billion ) into the airport. Because Britain and London are the biggest aviation hubs in the world, and London heathrow the biggest international airport in the world, it is vital that we keep investing in our airport infrastructure, so this is good news, all the other London international airports (6 of them) are undergoing big expansions and regenerations and redevelopments, with high speed rail and new subway lines, tunnels, and subway and train stations under construction, with all the other infrastructure investments and developments going on it is exciting times for london

New Bondway Tower Design Unveiled

Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF) has revealed its design for the New Bondway tower at London's Vauxhall interchange. The 551-foot (168-meter) tower replaces an unsuccessful, 489-foot (149-meter) zig-zag proposal designed by Make Architects, which was rejected in early 2011.

The tower features a 50-story private residential tower, a 23-story residential block to the south, and a 4-story office element linking the two buildings. Planning will be submitted for approval by the first quarter of 2014. Work is to start by 2015 and complete in 2018.

King’s Cross Central
King’s Cross Central is a giant mixed-use project to the north of King’s Cross & St Pancras which incorporates new build and the old Victorian railway buildings that previously inhabited the site. In total it will see the creation of 50 new buildings over 67 acres (of which 26 acres will be open space) and ten new squares.

When the Western Concourse was completed prior to the Olympics, work could commence on demolishing the dilapidated concourse that was at the front of King’s Cross station. The replacement is a new square fronting Euston Road.

One St George Wharf
Recently topped out, One St George Wharf is currently the tallest residential tower in London and the UK at 181m, but is unlikely to hold the title for long due to various other taller towers (including several north of 200m) that are in the pipeline. The tower recently made the news when a helicopter crashed into the crane that was constructing the tower.

Olympic Park Redevelopment
With the Olympics & Paralympics over, work immediately commenced on the legacy effort. This included the demolition of temporary venues & infrastructure, and the construction of new homes and facilities for the long-term viability of the area.

In total, 8,000 new homes will be built in the coming years (on-top of the converted athletes village, refer below) across five new neighbourhoods: Chobham Manor, East Wick, Sweetwater, Marshgate Wharf and Pudding Mill. The first homes will come online in 2015.

Royal Arsenal Riverside is a large redevelopment of the former navy munitions yards (it was also the original home of the football club Arsenal, and hence their nickname, the Gunners) in south east London. The initial completed phases were low-rise, but 3,700 new homes are to be built across several towers built above the Crossrail station and on to the river.

Battersea Power Station
Built in the early 1930’s in the Art Deco style, Battersea is the largest brick building in Europe. Various owners have failed to redevelop the site since it was decommissioned, whether due to the size of the site, the cost of renovating the power station, or potential incompetence.

The power station and surrounding lands were fortunately acquired by a Malaysian party last year who pushed forward with the Rafael Vinoly mixed-use masterplan for the site and commenced pre-sales earlier this year with an anticipation to get spades in the ground before the end of this year. Gehry & Foster will develop parts of the site as well. A new tube station will be built at the site (as part of the Northern Line extension), whilst a new pedestrian Bridge will connect to Victoria.

London Borough of ‘Heathrow’
This is technically a vision considering it anticipates the creation of the Thames Estuary Hub which is still up in the air and dependent upon the results of a commission, planning and funding, but the project aims to redevelop the massive west London site into a 150,000 home development with capacity for 200,000 new jobs; essentially a mini city. Heathrow’s two runways would be turned into lakes, whilst a terminal would be retained to provide check-in for the Thames Estuary Hub to the east of London.

NEW TOWER BEGINS CONSTRUCTION AT CANARY WHARF

A surprise new tower has today begun construction at canary wharf, with all the tower construction in London this one had slipped through and gone unnoticed until now, the 26fl tower, called horizon, is going up next to the under construction providence tower, and with the other under construction towers will bring awesome density to canary wharf. I wish it was a bit taller, but it's slender shape will help it look high, but the real fun comes next year, when all the 200m+ towers go up

It won't be visible from most of the standard river views we see posted on here, but definitely adds to the density of the City cluster. Can't wait for some of Chest's construction shots on this one.

Mount Pleasant Development

Mount Pleasant, a gentle rise between Kings Cross and Farringdon in north London, has always been something of a misnomer. From the 16th to the 19th century, it was home to a stinking heap of rubbish and human excrement. The great dump was finally cleared in 1794 to make way for an imposing brick prison, the notorious Clerkenwell Gaol, where inmates were forced to grind treadmills and pick oakum amid overflowing sewers. It was cleared again in the 1880s for a gargantuan postal sorting office, the largest in the world at the time, which has stood as a majestic shed ever since.

The three-hectare site next to the sorting office is now subject to a planning application for 700 mostly private flats, to be erected in a series of hefty blocks rising up to 15 storeys, which will frame narrow canyons of “public” space in their shadow.

The application, submitted by the recently privatised Royal Mail Group to Islington and Camden councils, whose boundary the site spans, has garnered an increasing amount of hostility, with designer and local resident Thomas Heatherwick now joining the calls to see it halted.

Bloomberg Place
Work has now accelerated on Bloomberg’s new London campus in the Square Mile following the completion of an archaeological dig that uncovered 10,000 artefacts including coins, amulets, leather shoes, several dozen tablets, Roman buildings and even a Roman wooden door.

The ‘groundscraper’ development (slightly smaller in office space than the Bloomberg Tower in New York) will consist of several buildings of 9 storeys connected by various sky bridges. A new entrance to Bank tube station will be constructed, whilst the remains of the Roman Temple of Mithras will be relocated to their original home for public viewing.
