It really does. It greatly improves the building's proportional relationship with the street.

This one in Downtown Ottawa is being gutted and will be re-built for NavCanada. Renderings of the new look will apparently be released in December.

As the Government of Canada prepares to vacate Toronto's Dominion Public Building across from Union Station after 86 years, a more permanent home is being prepared for its 1,900 federal employees. Now, two buildings at Yonge and St Clair, also home to some Federal ministry offices, are being retrofitted for Public Services and Procurement Canada to house the Ontario flagship offices of the Federal Government in a newly redesigned Arthur Meighen Building. Named for the 9th Prime Minister of Canada, the building will house Ontario’s branch of the Canada Revenue Agency and several other Federal ministries when it is completed in 2022.

I like that though even though they are completely altering the look of it, it will still have that 1950's feel to the updated design. Also what is there right now looks like 2 separate buildings and a bit of a mess.

That looks ugly....yeesh. The existing facades look fine, but I understand that some folks may find it busy.

I don't mind what is there now, 27 St Claire is actually pretty handsome, 55 however acts like a bunker at street level. It looks to have indoor parking at street on the main floor. I hope they are able to save some of the detailed relief work from 27. I understand though that both buildings are probably energy hogs, they are probably both out dated internally needing a major retrofit. I'm sure this was the most feasible option other then tearing down and staring over.

A job well done for sure. The office space is rented out by iq suites who have turned into executive office suites/co-working space. I've been though a few times and it looks great on the inside as well.

Me too, although I doubt that it's original. It certainly suits the building, however.
