I suppose this makes this the latest rendering.

Hyatt out, Loews in as new downtown KC convention hotel investor and operator
Quote:

Hyatt is out but Loews Hotels and Co. is in as a major investor, partner, and operator of Kansas City’s planned downtown convention hotel, the development team announced Wednesday.

Development attorney Mike Burke said Loews will be a joint venture partner with KC Hotel Developers LLC, and its investment will be “substantial.”

You guys just got an upgrade. It's happening. Hyatt would have been a 3 star-ish convention hotel. Loews will bring 4 stars and some luxury.

Oh, i know it's an upgrade, I've seen the Loews in Chicago. When i typed that i thought that Hyatt pulled out but now i've done a little more digging and have a better understanding. That's the result of typing before I read. #lessonlearned

Y'know, after 2 Light, 3 Light and 4 Light are built, plus the convention hotel, the south side of the skyline is going to be a continuous wall of silver glass.

Looking at the renderings, I don't mind it. I don't want to be one of those "something is better than nothing" guys but right now they are surface parking lots. We have a developer and a hotel group who are willing to invest in our town and the last thing we should do is what the save the plaza/westport groups are doing and scaring off development. Plus the crossroads area will continue to grow meaning that we will have brick high rise buildings in front of the glass wall to break up the monotony. It'll all work it's self out.

P.S. Word on the street is that 3 and 4 light's designs have changed and we should be "pleasantly surprised"

Port KC shows off plans for redevelopment of Berkley Riverfront
Quote:
Port KC has given the public its first look into plans for a redevelopment of the Berkley Riverfront. The undertaking is one of the largest economic growth initiatives happening in Kansas City right now, according to Port KC.

When finished, the 80-acre area will include office, residential and retail space. A project on the riverfront called the Union will hold 410 luxury apartments, as well as 12,000 square feet of retail space. That project is expected to be finished in 2018.

And in another bit of good news today an office tower downtown is about to get a hefty dose of new employees filling it up. With decent paying jobs.

KC insurance broker picks new HQ site, plans to add 1,000 jobs
Quote:
Spring Venture Group, a direct-to-consumer distributor of Medicare supplement insurance, reported Wednesday that it will move its headquarters to 130,000 square feet at 12 Wyandotte Plaza, 120 W. 12th St.

In April, the Enhanced Enterprise Zones of Kansas City recommended approval of a property tax abatement for the new headquarters, which Spring Venture Group at the time said would be at either 12 Wyandotte Plaza or the 2440 Pershing building at Crown Center.

I wonder what the blue things are supposed to represent?

They should put things that look like BBQ ribs hanging from there instead of blue blobs. :-/

Either just some random modern art or large Pringles that spilled out of the container. Art is in the eye of the beholder.

I'm sure they will. Hopefully, those office towers will be built and look less like they were built in 1982!! Overall, a great plan to utilize an area that needed a lot of work. If they can get the streetcar down there, that will be great!!
