^^^ Thanks for keeping us so well informed. I'll keep an eye out for a new crane from my office.

Security at the W had best be on high alert.

Checking through a tiny crack in the barriers, I could see that they have poured concrete for the foundation. Hopefully "holeinground" is still around and can snap a photo from his/her vantage point.

Was that over the weekend?

Here's the best I could do on snapping the finished product:

An army of trucks waiting their turn in line. Thats a beautiful shot. I've got to check this out one of these days, maybe next week.

Unfortunately, there's not much to see. All the work is happening at the bottom of the hole and you can't get anywhere near it. The best view is the angle showing the bottom section of the tower crane in some of the above photos. But you still can't really see anything from there either.

I zoomed in a little on this shot I posted yesterday in hopes it would be a little easier to see progress on the foundation:

It's finally possible to see down into this thing. They've really made a lot of progress:

I'm afraid we'll never see that Sherwood Packing sign again, once it gets covered up...but you never know. It is amazing to see how this little wall from the past is so very dominated by San Francisco of the late 20th and early 21st centuries in the some of the photos above.

I'll miss the sign too. I've tried to research Sherwood and the sign itself, to no avail. I guess it will go down as a tidbit of history that we've been exposed to briefly, only to see it disappear again.

It looks like we're not the only ones who will miss this sign. In addition to John King here...

I can't seem to find much real history on this particular sign either. But in regards to what a "jobber" could be, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jobber
Quote:
In the United States, an intermediary in the apparel industry who buys excess merchandise from manufacturers and brand owners and sells to retailers at prices that are typically 20-70% below wholesale. Because of the emergence of the discount retail sector since the 1990s, jobbers have grown in stature and are more appropriately referred to as "off-price specialists."

Here's a milestone. The rebar can now be seen from street level:

A little closer:
