I doubt it. They're probably just surveying the existing conditions, and what damage (if any) has been done because of exposure to the elements. Related execs aren't gonna hike up 20 floors of stairs.

Construction is still a long way off.

Related paid $26M for unfinished Chicago spire
The long-stalled, 27-story shell of what was to have been a 90-story condominium-hotel tower to be reborn as a 500-unit apartment building;
developer also plans another 500-unit building nearby.

Property records show that a venture led by Related Cos. paid $26 million for the Waterview Tower, an unfinished residential skyscraper in Chicago. Related did not disclose the price when it publicized that it had completed the acquisition at the end of July. Related plans to turn the project into a 500-unit apartment tower...Related also plans a 500-unit apartment tower at 500 N. Lake Shore Dr. in Chicago.

"We are pleased to have the opportunity to bring to market a marquee rental property in a fantastic location,” said Curt Bailey, president of Related's Midwest operations. “We look forward to realizing our vision and creating a great addition to the Chicago skyline.

The title is mis-leading,where does it say they bought the Chicago spire site?

Not really. If "spire" had been capitalized and used as a proper noun, yes, it would be misleading. Here "spire" is interchangable with tower.

^^^ No, not really. It's very rare that anyone would refer to a building as a spire. Despite the fact that the "s" is lower case it's pretty blatantly misleading.

signage imminent?

I was waiting for the light at this corner late last week and overheard some womenfolk just on the other side of the fence talking about a banner and where it should be placed for maximum visibility. Is it possible that they're almost ready to start advertising?

Possibly, but I don't know what the lead time is for signage. I doubt it will happen in the next few weeks, but maybe sometime in October.

Worst case scenario, just over a week. I say "worse case" because it's come down to the wire like that before. But who knows, it may be scheduled to go up sometime later.

Cleanup and fresh "safety paint" put up yesterday, worker from Bovis said that construction won't start for another 9mo, and then for a 60 flr bldg. He said that they needed to clean up for the architects.

Fresh signage ;-)

I'm glad things are moving with this one, I was starting to doubt that anything would ever be constructed.

I've been absent for about a year and I really haven gotten things correctly and I'm completely lost with this one. What is really going on? Construction wont start for the next 9mos due to cleaning and prepping up the site for construction but what IS going to be built and most importantly, how tall?

Related owns the building and has definite plans to complete the project, probably NOT to the original design.

Nobody's actually seen drawings or renderings yet, and this 60-story figure from Harry is news (a 60-story building could approach the original height...)

I'm assuming the 9 months is the minimum time required for the architects to create and develop a design and then line up a contractor to build the damn thing. Actual construction may not start until even later if there are any delays.

Fast forward to about 9:15, Blau says 52 stories...

No doubt Related will be looking at sales at 500 N LSD as well. Its hard to see them constructing two buildings simultaneously.
