Emily Carr University design students create memorable Games mementoes
Take a huge global Olympic sponsor, add 18 Emily Carr University design students and challenge them to create a unique Games-themed icon.
The result is a West Coast snow globe that honours Olympic and Paralympic athletes while displaying the Visa logo.
Visa sponsored an intense six-week Emily Carr course this year to create a locally designed piece to be displayed in stores throughout Metro Vancouver and Whistler.
Six teams of three students each submitted creations with various B.C. images, and the snow globe team of Adrien Guenette, Isabel Lau and Scott Piekema won out.
"The quality of the work was phenomenal, at the level it needed to be for a super-brand," course instructor Casey Hrynkow said.
The winning piece features an Olympic or Paralympic athlete encased in a snowy B.C. scene, sitting atop a rock cast from a Stanley Park beach rock.
