Taller than the Twin Towers?

It looks heavy enough as it is!

^ Yes, since it was going to be the headquarters of a BIG steel company, and steel is the main component in a skyscraper they were going to make it 1400+ ft, but for some reason scaled it back down. I think it was the right move, because it would stick out badly above the hills if that was the case.

That would have been messed UP!!! I was thinking maybe 1300 feet.

Maybe from an aesthetic point of view it was the right move, but they're looking for additional office space apparently. They're looking to potentially move out of this building in 2017.

Currently, they lease about 400 sqft, and they're in the hunt for up to a million sqft...

While we're on the subject of the US Steel Building. Anyone else on here, aside from those who post in the Pittsburgh development thread, know about the latest proposal for an observation complex on the roof of this thing?

The rooftop park does not have the support of the building's owner nor the leasing agent. I believe they are very opposed to the plan, mostly liability issues ... even though there would be numerous safeguards in place they don't want to be help responsible if someone was somehow able to take a swan dive over 800 feet down to Grant street below.

Found some really cool pictures of this building under construction in the early 70s. These pics are from the pgdigs tumblr, an account run by the Post Gazette. They basically just dump a lot of old Pittsburgh photos from their archives -- there is a TON of gold in there for anyone interested in Pittsburgh's history.
