MacEwan University moving ahead with moving downtown

EDMONTON - Grant MacEwan University is moving ahead with plans to become “Edmonton’s downtown university” by selling two satellite campuses worth an estimated $64 million, says the university’s new president.

David Atkinson, who took over MacEwan University’s top post in July, confirmed Wednesday the institution is in “ongoing and very intense” negotiations to sell its south campus to the Millwoods Christian School, an alternative program with Edmonton Public Schools that needs more space.

“We’re waiting for the offer, which we have been promised is imminent,” Atkinson told the Edmonton Journal editorial board. “But until it’s actually in my hands, it isn’t an offer.”
