So that's the reasoning behind the single dark stripe on the sides of the Envie. It's an homage to the fascia around the Ottawa Little Theatre!

Anybody else heard that a tower may be coming on the LCBO site?

We better be careful about not having too many towers next to the market area. If we put the market into a giant shadow, we could destroy the attractiveness of the area. In the shoulder seasons, sunlight is needed to make patios comfortable.

No, but I assume that it's just a matter of time.

Just not sure the culture in front of Rideau LCBO is the same as what this tweet is implying.

Yes, it has been assumed since the LCBO was built, but a third party told me the other day that an employee there had told him that an announcement was coming soon.

Good point though a condo building on the LCBO won't change much in terms of shade, when you consider what's being built on the former Metro site will "take care of that" already.

The LCBO site is a perfect opportunity for a condo tower exactly the same height as Claridge Royale, in a completely different style, to be stuck to the side of the East tower of Claridge Royale. Don't mess this up Ottawa!

It looks like the LCBO site is owned by the same developers as the AC Marriott and Major building proposal:

Awesome. Love their work so far. This corner presents of fantastic opportunity (if only we can move the truck traffic out of downtown).

The Market is not going to be in a "giant shadow".

Rideau Mcdonalds got a profile in the Toronto Star.

https://www.thestar.com/news/canada/...own-decay.html

Behind a paywall, here is the only part I can read.

OTTAWA—In early 2019, during the final months of Charles Bordeleau’s seven-year term as Ottawa police chief, an inspector for the city’s downtown core came to him with a problem: Things were getting out of hand at the McDonald’s, the inspector told him. He didn’t have to say which one. It was long past time for an intervention.

For years, the 24-hour fast-food restaurant on Rideau Street, a main drag in the heart of downtown Ottawa, had been a last stop for bar-district leavers seeking greasy fare to soak up the booze. At any time of day, the McDonald’s was a wild card, but after midnight it could be pure chaos. It smelled of French fries, beer breath and warm bodies coated in dance-club sweat. Often, there was no discernible lineup in front of the service counter, just a mosh pit of people hungry for cheeseburgers.
