That's actually a very good point. The importance of the "late merge" seems to be lost on a lot of people.

I am not 100 percent in this but the short merge for the time being may be corrected as part of the much larger re-build of the Sunbury Interchange and Alex Fraser Bridge countefow (that is, unless Vision Vancouver, I mean the NDP and Greens cancel it too).

PS, I had more hope for our new government before Meggs became a key component. Seriously, I have never once heard Meggs or Robertson support a single highway project... ever. I have never liked such absolutism in a politician.

The Deltaport to 17-N on-ramp is an even worse offender in lack of accel lane, since the merge is almost exclusively used by heavy trucks that need time to accelerate. Compare that to the old on-ramp (now Deltaport to 17A-N) which had a very long, nice accel lane.

Thanks for the pics.

I guess we can still enjoy this small vestigial highway project.

Will be nice when the 91 is finally free flow both directions start to finish.

Looks like the bridge could easily accommodate the potential widening of Hwy 91 to 4 lanes north and south.

Woah that was some impressive amount of work in 2+ months.
When I went back in mid-August, all I saw was a small piece of overpass, so I thought to myself, "How's the government gonna meet the deadline of 2018 at this pace?"

Highway 91 was built and currently is a pathetic 4 lane "freeway".

Don’t quite get what you are going for here... Once this project is completed the 91 will finally be without a doubt a full freeway (many freeways are 4 lanes in the world). It only took 30 years! (Will the SFPR also take 3 decades?)

Yes, it could be expanded to 6 lanes... but seeing the current state of our now stalled (cancelled) 99 project, and cancelled highway 1 widening to Abbotsford project, adding lanes to the 91 is a loooooooong was out.

Never even realised that happened... very disappointing.

Yeah, that bomb was dropped last month. The 216th Interchange project will continue, but east of that is cancelled.

What about the 91-17-Nordel interchange? Is that still going through?

And what about the counterflow for the bridge?

Haven’t heard a peep about those recently. I also would love to know more. Seeing how the province would be paying less than half the cost for that project it would be a pretty big blunder to cancel it.

Don't be too disappointed. Metro-One is jumping to conclusions about every decision that is in the process of being re-evaluated. Just one step away from claiming this project will be cancelled because of a change in government.

I have just been alive long enough to know what these terms actually mean when politicians say them.

I will ask the same question again that no one answered on the GMB thread. If these projects really aren’t cancelled and are just being re-evaluated in a non bias fashion, what happens if the reports state that the original plans (or plans very similar in scope and design) that were put on hold / stopped really are the best approaches? Do you really think that the NDP will say, “Well gosh darn, the Liberals were right, this project was the best option, okay, start things up again!”

No, never, without a chance. I would gladly eat humble pie if that does happen, but you would be a fool to count on that. Any project that was moving ahead (especially those in pre-construction) that have been slated for “re-evaluation” will never come back, especially in any form resembling what was proposed before. As for site-C, well, it is mid construction, so it may be too late to stop. In that case, trying to make it look like as big of a boondoggle as possible is the best political option.

It is the same when Vision says they are building a trial bike lane... it ain’t no trial, it is permanent.

Which is why I don’t believe in any project until opening day I even still hold the Broadway Subway in this regard until I see a tunnel being bored.

I hope those are still going though.

The 91 connector is a complete gongshow.

From officedweller, from the road infrastructure thread. Thought I'd post this here since this seems to be the thread for general Highway 91 improvements.

That PM peak onto 72nd ave looks like it will be an issue, especially with people trying to merge onto highway 91 SB from the 91 connector.

From the road infrastructure thread. Thought I'd post this here since it seems to be the thread for general Highway 91 improvements.
