I think the tower that's being built at 3rd and Colorado will fill this hole a good bit.

That building is going to be between the W and Colorado Tower on the skyline. I think it'll be too far north to fill that gap. I think to fill that gap something will need to go in west of the Austonian, which is likely to happen eventually. It's kind of a no brainer with the views it would have of the water.

We probably need both lots developed to completely fill that gap.

The embarrassing "bugs" have been fixed with their second webcam called "Skyline".

Should the narrow lot immediately north of the Austonian on the same block (facing 3rd St) be developed, that could fill in a good chunk of it, I would think.

This is totally off topic, but that picture gets me thinking... this city is really lagging behind other big cities in terms of public art. I think that roundabout would be a great spot for a big sculpture. Who's with me??

Speaking of art, has anyone gone over to see the bicycle sculpture yet? It's supposed to be over by the boat house near the Four Seasons. I haven't been yet, but I'd like to go get some photos of it. This one is being moved from city to city.

Personally, I don't really care about art. Most of the time, the city art I see is so abstract it looks ridiculous. If it was actually something cool, then I wouldn't mind. I just don't want another Lamar Blvd "art" fiasco.

I like art, but given that it has a large tree there, I'd like to keep that. If the art can go around and complement the tree, that's great. If there were no tree there, I'd say go large. Other areas, however, I agree - let's put artists to work! I love traveling to different cities around the world and seeing the different kind of art on display (especially that from local artists with their own cultural influences).

It is pretty powerful. I've followed the artist for a couple years. He will go down as an important figure in China's history.

Not sure about the round about, but I do agree that the state of Austin public art is pretty dismal.

When we do get some art, we get the "blue reflector" things under the bridge on N Lamar, or we get someone crocheting a stop sign. C'mon Man!

I know art is subjective, but sometimes i feel like artists are just effing with us. If they have a sense of humor like I do, then they certainly are.

The blue reflector things are obviously representing water, right? Amiright? Yeah?....

Yeah, it sucks. We need something better.

If you read my post on the Villas redevelopment thread, you'll see that what we have and what we are getting is respectful and appropriate. TIC.

Those are public art? I always thought they were reflectors for the cars going under the railroad bridge to call attention to the steep grade for safety...

They LOOK like road signs, not art.

Agreed: C'mon Gurl!
