Checked in twice today and have a bunch of photos. A crawler crane was assembled on site today and it looks like part of it will be coming down the old fashioned way with a wrecking ball.

This morning:
The Wrecking Ball:
Interesting - I don't remember ever seing a wrecking ball in action. Maybe someone will post some videos on YouTube.
There is an open-house at the Museum of Natural History on Tuesday, May 27th from 7 PM - 9 PM. They will be giving more details and discussing plans to add two storeys to the hotel proposals.
UPDATE: A Final Site Plan Approval was issued by the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) on March 9th, 2012, permitting the construction of: two 13 storey hotels and an 18 storey residential building with associated retail and auxiliary uses, on the former Citadel Hotel site. On May 11th, a revised site plan was submitted to HRM to add two storeys to each of the hotels, bringing both up to 15 storeys, and the total hotel rooms to 316. All other aspects of the application, including the 18 storey residential building, siting, setbacks and other uses, remain the same. An Open House will be held May 29, 7 PM – 9 PM at the Museum of Natural History for those interested to learn more.
I'm still curious about the construction schedule. Will these three buildings be going up at once? Will this be a multi-crane job? It would be great if they were in full swing by this summer.
I think this will be one of the busiest construction seasons in a long time in Halifax.
I suspect this may be the start. If the economic estimates with the ship building contract are correct, this may be the busiest year - so far. The crane counts for years to come will likely be even better...
Wow look at that old sign! Was that the old wall or something?
The original structure was only a few storeys tall without enclosed balconies. Those and the extra floors were added in an expansion in the 1970s if memory serves. That logo was the original one for the Citadel Inn when it was a Seaway hotel chain member.
