The Final city in my Australia Visit was Sydney. Flew into Melbourne direct from Vancouver, hopped over to Perth and Flew out of Sydney direct back to Vancouver.
No Particular order of the pics. I really liked the city, probably cause I got to spend more time it edged out Melbourne. It had a much more big city feel and coastal city vibe and was significantly warmer.
Welcome to Sydney - the airport has two separate terminals one for domestic where I arrived and one for international where I departed, each one has its own train stop. The train was probably less than 15 minutes into town.
Loved the double decker trains but not so great with Luggage but they have seating you can use without navigating the stairs on the train
Something new just outside the Kings Cross station, the area I stayed in, it's within 20 minutes walking of the CBD, the Opera House etc, great area to stay in.
recently refurbished - there is a multi level grocery store in the 2 basement levels
the CBD in the distance
this building sits between Darlinghurst and Victoria, Victoria was full of restaurants and some retail, Darlinghurst had some but not as much as Victoria
Bondi Junction - Oxford street is pedestrianized here
Martin Place - the new Metro will have a stop here
Pitt Street Mall
a glimpse of the Queen Victoria Building, which is on George Street which is where an LRT is being installed. The QVB, the galleris and the westfield are all interconnected underground as well and interconnect with Town Hall Station which is super busy.
inside the QVB - first visit, everything was just closing up, it was 6 pm on a Monday
Great pics. I'm one of the few people whose initial impressions of Sydney were negative. The first five or so times I visited I was put off by the hordes of tourists and large contingent of people who seemed to be there for the scene, rather than to work. It reminded me as a mix of the worst of Los Angeles and Vancouver. I've since come to appreciate the city by avoiding the touristy neighborhoods and getting to know many locals. The best parts of Sydney are English inspired neighborhoods like Glebe and the quiet northern suburbs. I still hate Circular Quay, Darling Harbour, Kings Cross and Bondi.

Your pictures really give the impression that Australia's major cities have maintained a good balance between historic preservation and the shiny and new. Was that your impression? If so, isn't that truly one of the hallmarks of the best urban areas?

Fantastic & very comprehensive photo set! The first group of photos up until about Bondi looked like it could be somewhere in North America. The city seems to have an interesting mix of architectural styles and influences but also quite distinctly Oceania for sure. Thank you for sharing!

Yea there was a good mix and a good amount of older buildings. Coming from Vancouver where pretty much everything old was demolished and replaced it was nice to see.
Back to Bondi Junction, Oxford street is pedestrianized here.

Forever 21 was closed, apparently they were pulling out of Australia after bring unable to succeed down there, looked like a sports store chain was going to take over the 2 level space, woolworths grocery store had already taken over the basement level which closed earlier when F21 downsized
