NBF still believes in it. Goes into conspiracy theory kind of thinking though-'Big Subway is conspiring with state media to quash a potential competitor.'

This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen and heard.

The infrastructure needed to build this thing would balloon the price tag astronomically.
Elevated stations every other block, widening streets/avenues, demolishing existing infrastructure like over head bridges, power lines, traffic lights and etc. and THEN the daunting task of teaching people how to coexist with the buses (which will never work anywhere) this is just stupid all around.

Something like this would NEVER work in the states, unless its in suburbia or rural America which would make it almost pointless since the population density isn't there to support it. You're better off sticking with Subways, light rails, streets cars and elevated rails in the inner cities. the price tag would probably be about the same anyway but even better.

I'm impressed that China is willing to try out new innovative concepts such as this.

Are you under the impression that China is trying out this concept?

I'm surprised that the fatal flaws aren't obvious from the moment someone sees this.

The only reason they can "try out" concepts like this is because growth rates are so astronomical that they can build whole neighborhoods from the ground up, designed around this technology. Plus, the "towers in a park" development style often includes an "elevated ground plane" of podiums that connect to each other, which is a natural counterpart to the straddle bus.

Western cities don't usually have this, except in a small handful of neighborhoods that are usually despised by planners today (Illinois Center in Chicago, La Defense in Paris, Bunker Hill in LA, etc). Or the skywalks in Minneapolis.

Aaaaaand it's gone.

But still there, ironically blocking traffic.

China's futuristic 'straddling bus' now sits abandoned, gathering dust and blocking traffic

by Shanghaiist in News on Dec 5, 2016 6:00 pm

China's once-celebrated Traffic Elevated Bus (TEB) has been left abandoned in the middle of a Hebei city road, not having moved once in over two months. Originally touted as the futuristic solution to urban traffic jams, the "straddling bus" is currently causing them.

A local reporter recently checked up on "the future of public transportation" at its testing site in Qinhuangdao, only to find it forgotten in a rusted garage, covered in dust. The bus is currently being looked after by a pair of old security guards who reluctantly admit that they've been forgotten about as well.

"The managers from the company have long drifted away, and I am unable to contact them," said an unidentified guard.
