Just finished a long panoramic sketch of San Antonio in a Japanese-style
folding Moleskine sketchbook and thought I'd share. I did it on site from direct observation, so this one took some time.
It's actually four separate panos. The first is a 180 degree sketch of Houston Street just north of Alamo Plaza.
The second pano is of Navarro Street and the Nix Hospital.
The third is on Commerce Street and features the Aztec Theater.
The fourth pano is only 90 degrees (I ran out of room) and was done in front of the old San Antonio Courthouse.

Here's the full pano (scroll>>>)

Here it is split into 3 sections so you can see it all together.

And here are some details:

That's the most incredible thing I've ever seen. How long does it take you to do something like that? Do you start with pencils, or do you just take pen to paper?

Thanks Tex-- just saw that you posted here and in the Texas forum, so I'll reply to both. I rough everything out in pencils-- basically just blocking out proportions in a very loose way, then I go back in with pen and add all the detail and fine-tune proportions and values. Since I only work on site from observation, a drawing like this takes in the neighborhood of 200 hours. Of course, those 200 hours spanned 3 months, because I have a full-time job and did a lot of other drawings at the same time. I've done a similar project where I drew every building in downtown Bozeman, Montana, but it wasn't on one long sheet like this. I hope to do more and share 'em!

I really like how you were able to account for the distortion that a panoramic camera would make. It shows up really well on the Houston St (I haven't been to SA very much) facades.

Thank you so much! That means alot!
My dream which I know its a HUGE dream but it's that I would love to see this drawing in display at the World Trade Center museum or a lobby of any tower. I wish that with all my heart! But for now I'll get it framed and put it on my wall.

I hope this is an ok place to post this.

It's an advertisement for an urban condominium building in a North American City. It was done in watercolour paint for my High School art class.
