[Surrey] Central City Professional Bldg | 12 floors | Completed

Figured this building should have its own thread seeing as it is under construction and has been mentioned several times recently in other threads.

This is the "Lark" building across from Surrey Memorial and is under construction at the 'giant hole digging' phase as of this posting.

Building Web Site: http://www.centralcityprofessionalbldg.com/
Floors: 12
Completion Date: Early 2014
Phase: 1 of 2

They also have a live cam which shows Surrey Memorial's expansion in the background:

I'd be interested in knowing whether the city has any plans to break up the mega blocks adjacent to the hospital site in conjunction with all this development. If so, it could one day become something akin to VGH's attractive, urban-scale and pedestrian-oriented campus.

The north side does have pretty small blocks already, I think they will be connected further. The south, main hospital, well that would cut right through buildings, so probably not.

This building has been steadily under construction.

They're now above ground and working on main floor/floor 2.

Picture from the cam as of today (can see Surrey Memorial Emergency Care Tower in the background also steadily being finished off)

Today August 14th heading East (turning off of 96th) on my way home today.

Looks like another 4 floors to go basically. Should be topped out in a few months, doesn't look like they have started putting windows up yet.

Is all of the parking underground for this building? The drawing only has one level and I don't remember this having a very deep hole. I would of expected more parking for a building of this size.

For now the parking is open to the public because the SMH parkade is being rebuilt shortly and therefor will have to be closed. This building has at least 3 floors under ground. New SMH parkade info:City of Surrey File 7912-0312-00

According to the city web site and the plans submitted, the building has 4 underground parking levels with a total of just over 500 parking spaces. There are also 13 surface spaces behind the building (north side).

Surrey's Innovation Boulevard

Surrey's Innovation Boulevard gains momentum
http://www.biv.com/article/20131029/...gains-momentum
Surrey's ambitious plan to create a medical hub – a network connecting businesses with health institutions and universities – has taken off like a "bullet train," according to the neuroscientist who's driving it.

Dr. Ryan D'Arcy, co-chairman of Mayor Dianne Watts' Health Technology Working Group, said there's been unprecedented demand from medical businesses ranging from multinational medical technology companies to new spinoffs looking to set up shop in the fast-changing city. He declined to disclose names until the deals are finalized.

"[Since] January we haven't been able to keep up with the business sector demand," said D'Arcy.

The city's Innovation Boulevard concept was unveiled just over a year ago and seeks to leverage its location – one square mile in the city centre between Simon Fraser University (SFU) and Surrey Memorial Hospital – and homegrown medical talent to establish a life sciences version of Silicon Valley.

Surrey Memorial is the busiest specialized care hospital in the region, and its half-billion-dollar expansion is the largest health infrastructure investment in B.C.'s history.

The area is also home to the Fraser Health Authority, has the new Jim Pattison Surgery and Outpatient Centre close by, and also boasts the University of British Columbia's teaching hospital, which will become a clinical academic campus next year.

Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) is also developing a proposal for a regional centre there.

"We're hoping to create a space there, adjacent to other research spaces, where we can go in with teams of faculty – multi-disciplinary teams – where we can look at specific solutions to specific problems for patients," said KPU president and vice-chancellor, Alan Davis.

"We're really interested in using technology to make life easier and better and safer."

D'Arcy, SFU's BC Leadership Chair in Multimodal Technology for Healthcare Innovation, said there are more than 180 health service businesses, ranging from physicians to testing laboratories, along Innovation Boulevard.

Says that there will be 3 phases in total - this is Phase 1:

Quote:
The company built the first of its two care facilities in the area and is now developing its $200 million office building, which will consist of 180,000 square feet of space in phase 1, mainly for medical use, and the same in phase 2. The third phase will offer 130,000 square feet.
