I suppose it's possible. That Perk's location (along with the entire Perk's chain) closed down, and the kiosk has been dismantled.

[EDIT]
They've started excavating the floor in that area. Now, it would seem virtually certain that at least one direction, perhaps both, of the replacement escalator will indeed be going in the former Perk's location.

Although connected to the hotel, Tempo will have a separate street-front entrance. It will feature a grab-and-go deli area for business types on the hunt for lunch downtown."

I see nothing unfortunate about having a new local restaurant rather than a national chain.

How "local" is it really? Designed in Toronto, owned by a holding company in BC.

Plus the girls at Jacks are hot

How so? Never had a bad meal at Jacks. Ever. And I've ate there a bunch. Its as consistent as anything, coast to coast.

Is it fine dining? Absolutely not. But for a good, family meal at a reasonable price its hard to beat.

I went to Target for the first time a couple of weeks ago in Bellingham, just over the border from Vancouver. I'm not sure exactly what I was expecting but I have to say that I was disappointed. The store felt a lot like Zellers or Walmart. I actually didn't stay long, so maybe the products and prices are worth a closer look. Everything else about the store was unappealing.

Yeah - it's basically a Wal-Mart or Zellers. The all important difference though is the marketing/brand. They've worked very hard to position themselves as a cooler place to shop. A lot of their stores have a faux hardwood flooring in sections versus the concrete you see at a Wal-Mart, for example. In essence, if you feel embarrassed about shopping at a Wal-Mart, but have no trouble strolling into a Target then they've done their job. Or at least their agency has. And remember, if it's cool for the First Lady, then it's cool for you too. (http://www.washingtonpost.com/lifest...LGL_story.html).

And none for NB (so far).

Only one out of 76 announced locations is in Atlantic Canada - that's pretty pitiful.....

Don't feel like you're missing out As others have mentioned Target is basically just another iteration of the Zellers/Wal-Mart model and is nothing particularly special - in fact more than anything it is probably somewhat damaging to local businesses because most of the products being sold at the new Target locations are already available at low prices at existing department stores in these regions, so the argument that the new Targets offer local consumers savings that would otherwise be unavailable is kind of bogus. Consider also that there are no stores opening in Vancouver, Ottawa, or Quebec City proper. The only one in the Halifax area is right next to the widest freeway in Nova Scotia.

Theres alot of potentially busier stores then the bedford place mall closing. That place is dead and doesn't seem suitible for what target is going for. Dont think its too long before that mall ungergoes a major renovation/ demolishing. I think the only thing it has going for it is the timmys and lotto booth within walking distance of each other.

Just had from a friend with dexter construction that the old walmart in sackville will be making way for a large scale redevolopment with a rona and several low rise condominums in the works. This is the biggest news for sackville since the widening of sackville drive which is rather pathetic. Personally I wish that sackville had never been developed. What a wasteland. Cant understand how someone could be proud to live there. Someone please name a building with some signification or at least one good thing about living there. Sorry but I just think that its ajax outside toronto on an even shittier scale.

Bedford Place is very similar to Penhorn -- a lower end suburban mall without much appeal that has been almost totally replaced by big box stores. Bedford's growing population might have helped a bit but it won't when new retail areas are being built by Larry Uteck and up around Duke Street.

One thing that could really improve Bedford Place would be some residential development, but I don't know if much density would be allowed there and transit service is poor. Even if a train were operated, Bedford Place would not be very close to it.

Sackville was horrible 1970's planning. People were encouraged to move there from the North End, and it was thought to be perfectly situated so that everybody could commute by car to Burnside. That's not sufficient for creating a good suburb but now we are stuck with it. I don't think we've really learned much from it, given the low-density development around Bedford South and the lack of transit on the Bedford Highway. It looks nicer than Sackville but that's about it.

I live there, and I'm not proud. Thankfully the 185 runs from here. That's about the only thing that Sackville has going for it. Further away than Bedford from Halifax, but takes less time to get in there through public transit. My family and I were looking at the parks of west Bedford to move in there, or some other place up there for a house. But 500 grand for the same house there with worse public transit. Didn't really seem good.

Also on Bedford place mall. I don't think that they management there helps it at all. I have no idea what the attraction is to places like bedford commons, etc... for people and not the indoor malls. These places wouldn't be built is people didn't go to them.
