Downtown Orlando building boom.

Downtown Orlando is going through a large building boom. The boom is huge if compared to the size of the downtown before the boom. There is some office space in the boom, but most of it is new condo space. There is one huge tower that will break ground in a few weeks in additon to the projects shown here. The oldest of the new projects is pretty much finished, ready for move in.

I was in DT Orlando about three years ago and was impressed. The area aound the lake on the east side of downtown is evolving into an outstanding urban neighborhood, with a nice mix of high-rise/mid-rise condos, interesting shops and restaurants and some great old single family homes

Thanks for posting the photos!

It opens May, 11 2007. The theater area has 12 sceens, and covers about half the total area of the complex on the floor that its on. I hope the theater makes it. Movie theaters in downtowns are almost extinct.

When I took the picture of it, concrete trucks came to the site a few times. Apparantly the trucks come all day. I am amazed how mnay high rises now use all concrete for the super-structure instead of steel girders. Seems like all of the new projects in Orlando are concrete, and it seems most if not all of the Miami projects are concrete also. Has concrete replaced steel girders for high rises now?? Seems like it. Has there been a breakthrough in concrete recently to cause this??? Or is concrete just cheaper now????

But consider how much cooler this nice brand new theater will be than anything else near downtown (I'm assuming any theaters nearby have been there for a while).

Some had the same concern when a theater opened in intown Atlanta but that theater has been a smashing success and I expect the same for Orlando.

There is a large theater complex that opened up last year in the mall thats about 2 miles away. We shall see how the new downtown one makes out.

^I predict it will do just fine. This movie theater is not attempting to bring in new business to this part of downtown, it is already a very lively area. It is only adding to it.
