I wanted to take the same photo PittsburghPA took the other day. You keyboard warriors be damned. Walking down Illinois towards the lake its a good looking building. You can see them already well into fitting out the apartments on the lower floors as well.

The antique bronze window details add a lot to the facade. Some of us will have to eat our words about value engineering.

Nope, as Notyrview and I have pointed out, they had much larger swaths covered in bronze on the first view renderings, particularly on the ones that went before the community meeting for the building and park. Still, might be better without them than with, so I'm not complaining. The base is solid, and if the crown is lit up well then I'll be fine with it, especially as the Spire site gets built and it helps balance out that peak in Streeterville.

I’m fine with it too. V, you can have your bronzed turd. the great thing about this town is that if you don’t like one building look a block away and you’ll find one you do like.

That's the greatness of Chicago, if you don't like a bronzed turd you can enjoy the painted concrete turd.

No, that's more NYC. Chicago is more "glass turd" nowadays if you know the city.

Nah, the whole Hudson Yards development is largely shards of turds. The key is to mix this stuff up. All the lipstick on OBP isn't nearly as offensive when it's anchored by banal glass boxes. And once this regal piggy is flanked by Vista and 400 N., the sheer diversity of the area will be wonderful, and all is forgiven.

OBP is largely in good company because Streeterville is already full of glass towers.

If this had been dropped into, say, River North, it would’ve vanished within a sea of ugly beige

Likewise, One Chicago Sq is going to find a good canvas in River North.

NEMA is painted concrete:

At least Vinoly's NYC turd was pigmented structural concrete.

Sorry for the OT but man I really just can't warm to the AGORA structures and doubt I ever will. They just seem a waste of space for just about anything different.

Then you probably won't like any of the artist's work - https://www.google.com/search?q=abak...w=1920&bih=894

Unhappy with painted concrete on a nearly all glass tower and yet completely satisfied with beige precast panels on a tower that’s 40% concrete

Percentage of concrete isn't the issue. Quality and cost of concrete is. OBP has a concrete frame like NEMA. One of those buildings has an additional layer of finishing, one of them has a coat of paint.

Its not an ugly building, but its not a pretty one either. Lets leave it at that.

I will agree however that the juxtaposition of the precast with all the Streeterville glass towers does work to OBP's benefit.
