Will there be another node at that point expanding the center column in the sloped side into 2 or 3 columns?

If you would compare the growth of tower 1v2 in comparrison to the growth of a human, which stage would you consider it to be right now?

OK, the corners of the tower are chamfered. They lean in. The sloped columns of the chamfered corners meet the straight columns of the vertical sides at the 52nd floor, and again at the 82nd floor.

It's hard to discribe in words. The columns transition from the vertical face to the chamfered face.

A bit old (Sept 8), but a cool sketch from a fellow urban sketcher friend of mine from Flickr:

Those words are fine. I think I get the picture.

Question for Zensteeldude

Zensteeldude, I couldn't think of a better person on this board to ask this question...

What's the difference between a girder and a beam?

Always bugged me...

Thx

Beams are the smaller of the horizontal load bearing members, and span between the girders. They support the weight of floor and dead loads/live loads above, and transmit these weight and loads to the girders. Many beams can span between two girders, depending on the weight/load the beams need to carry.

Girders are the larger of the horizontal load bearing members, and span between the load bearing column members. They carry the weight of beams (and the weight of the floors and other dead loads/live loads above) and transmit this weight to the load bearing columns.

Or think of it this way:

Girder = Big horizontal member
Beam = Small horizontal member that is supported by big horizontal member

Thanks for the clear explanation dchan. I appreciate it.

So are beams equivalent to joists in home construction?
