It isn't being built in Rocky Mountain national Park, for heaven's sake. The design looks very good and appropriate. It reminds me of European mountain town architecture. Sure, it was applied to a Las Vegas type casino. But the tower will be so much nicer looking, than just the parking garage and main casino floor that is there now!

It's in Black Hawk. Visit it sometime and you will find it is very appropriate. I always thought the city kind of sleazy, and a casino tower in the mountains is, well, just that. That being said, I think they could have made it look A LOT worse.

Besides, as already said, it's not like it's being built on top of Pike's Peak or in a protected wilderness area. This part of Colorado is nothing special, trust me. It is far from 'raping' the open land of the West. That happened 150 years ago when we all started to arrive.

Black Hawk/Central City was a rough, dirty town back in the old days. From what I've read, there was gambling, prostitution ect. ect. and the land around it was mined to death because of the rich gold deposits. As it has already been said, a casino tower is kinda sleazy, but in my opinion it fits in perfectly in Black Hawk.

This thing is perfectly suited for Blackhawk.

I love rants that call havens heavens, rapping ripping and embarrassed embaressed. Wonderful when a entertaining rant is tripped up in my mind while I have to stop and look at context clues to figure out just what word the poster means. Of course it a different kind of fun when the context clues say "I'm retarted" but maybe that's just me.

Still I'm suprised at how many people think the Blackhawk area is ugly. I've always thought that while different from the rest of the mountains it has a unique beauty. Adding a tower in a valley that is already otherwise developed isn't really going to do any harm to the area. In fact I think a narrow valley filled with taller buildings would really look cool eventually. Certainly not anymore harm is being done than the road up there did when they completed that a few years ago.

Also why this implication that architecture only belongs in areas that are so ugly that they have no redeeming value visually except what man made architecture can add. Does everyone think that the plains of Denver have no value except the city? Does New York have nothing but buildings to offer?

I don't think Black Hawk is ugly. It just has a different appeal than the rest of the mountains. I don't believe that architecture is needed to "redeem" the town, except in the case of the ugly blasted cliff walls and parking lots along main street that were intended as building sites. That said, the area's get-rich-quick history and seedy past make casinos a natural fit. While a tower of this sort may not fit in Aspen or Breckenridge, it seems like a natural progression for Black Hawk.
