I agree. And the good thing is that some of these towers are really high caliber. I mean, love it or hate, 2 WTC, with Ingel's design, is okay, but I think others like me hope for something different (Even if there is a small chance, hey, why not you know). But we will see. 80 South alone will be huge for the area, and its in a section that it will really tower over. Probably the worst tower for Downtown this cycle has to be 5 Beekman. If you haven't seen what 5 beekman looks like, check the thread out. Its vomit inducing, so have a trash bin next to you. Fortunately, it will get drowned out by the adjacent two parcels that are slated for projects, but until then, you will be drowned in vomit.

The good thing about this cycle is that many of these projects will add a new level of balance with regards to downtown. Nothing really will stand out like a sore thumb. 1 WTC at first, but now the 3 WTC is essentially topped out, along with the flurry of 700/800 footers nearby, there is a gradual progression of height. A sort of harmony, and its pleasant to see.

That doesn't mean it's a likely outcome, though.

The smart bet is to assume Silverstein will build 2 WTC as is. Foster's design wasn't "current" for the tenants Silverstein is looking to attract. The current BIG design is, so there's really no reason and no likelihood to expect that there will be any major changes. Could it happen? Anything could happen. Is it likely a new concept will be brought in? Not so much.

Official rendering sucks to boot. I made some more accurate massing models on Google Sketchup. This is what the World Trade Center along with the new Two World Trade Center should look like. Ignore the World Trade Center Transportation Hub since I had difficulty rendering that on Google Sketchup.

Re: updating the design: I'm no developer, but it makes sense to keep Ingel's plan unless a large potential tenant demands changes. I'd imagine nothing is 100%, but also that a lot of $ has been spent on the last round of engineering, so why scrap it unless someone ponies up?

This building is okay in my eyes when you compare it to the monstrosities that line South St. (Well, that's just my opinion.) NYC construction is often full of crap, but luckily in that city no one building really ever stands out; as long as the architecture remains varied enough from building-to-building the aggregate effect is generally quite striking. I really enjoy the mountain skyline of NYC where it's one single mass of building parts.

From these angles (taken Oct 15) you can sense the impact tower 2 will have on making the complex feel whole. We need this to rise...

The first time I saw the thread for 5 Beekman after it had been topped out I honestly thought it was a Pomo tower from the early 90's. The pyramids on top are so bad... And the trompe d'oeil on the back is unbelievable.

Man that sucks. You'd think such a prominent tower would be kept clean. The transparent look of the glass adds to the issue in my opinion.

Updated. It looks better now. This looks great. Still have not fixed the World Trade Center Transportation Center. Hub is difficult to render on Sketchup.

3d modeling is so useful, I love sketchup, but that view from South Ferry really shows the true size of this building. Looks like it could have the most square footage in the city or at least close to it.

The 3D modeling looks pretty accurate.
Now if they can get this thing built, that's another thing!

I actually really like this representation... have there already been subtle changes from the original Ingels re-design of this tower?

^Yes

Biggest seems to be that the south face is no longer totally flat and theres a subtle height change.
The other is that the north/east elevation is no longer that very horizontal glass as we saw in the video with horizontal mullions every several feet, but is now that 'shingled' glass as we see in hudson yards. Much better IMO.

I really hate this design.

Its like a toddler tried to stack their building blocks straight up and didn't line them up properly.
