That's Castle Butte. It's about 2 hours SW of Regina maybe a half hour or so north of the Montana border. It's in the Big Muddy Badlands which mark the northern end of the Outlaw Trail. It's a really cool area and there's lots to explore. There are caves, effigies, tepee rings, all sorts of things....You can explore a lot of it on your own but there are a number of tours in the area as well.

Were you in Drumheller? Or is that Dinosaur Provincial Park?

We were outside of Drumheller in the Badlands. I dunno if it was in the provincial park at all, we just found a place to pull off the highway and ended up climbing some sketchy cactus covered hoodoos

Oh you probably stopped at Horseshoe Canyon just outside the city. Dinosaur provincial park isn't actually near Drumheller, which surprises most people. It's near Brooks east on Hwy 1.

Yeah, we were between Drumheller and the Royal Tyrell Museum. Beautiful country out there. I wanna head down south to Milk River this summer. Apparently down there it looks like friggin Arizona. My ex said that out in the Southeast past Brooks and Bassano that there are actually cacti a couple feet tall in some places.

Impressive. I wish there were someone standing beside the falls to give a better idea of their size.

The falls themselves are not particularly large, but a normally wide and docile river gets forced through a narrow gorge. I would estimate 3 meters rock to rock, with the river typically about 15 meters wide.

In case you haven't done so already, check out the set of falls just a little south of Enterprise. Well worth the stop.

Yeah this surprises a lot of people, I used to think it was a short drive too. Though you do get pockets badlands all along the Red Deer River, starting pretty much as soon as it turns south, would make a cool rafting trip.

Drumheller is a very cool area. You can just picture the dinosaurs roaming around when you are driving into the town. It reminds me of the "mysterious beyond" in The Land Before Time movie series, if anyone remembers that LOL. But it's truly something worth seeing I'd say. Canada is so awesome.

Your pictures just reminded me that I have yet to upload the pictures I took from the Rocky Mountaineer Train last summer between Vancouver and Calgary. I'll be sure to do that this weekend and post them here.

I just came back from a two week trip to the Yukon. I was lucky enough to go hiking in the Tombstone Range northeast of Dawson City and immediately fell in love with the area.
