Forgot to update that, but the LMFAO show was at Scotiabank Place.

And the New Hot 89.9 has a huge set of photos on Facebook (actually two parts) that has two impersonators (or I guess two of their hosts) of LMFAO with I guess fans. On part 2, I can recognize one of my friends in there.

Quite a few shows have been added to the Scotiabank Place lineup

November 22: Andre Rieu - Scotiabank Place (yeah I know it might not be our style of music for most of us)
November 23: Lights - Bronson Centre (hum, would have hoped a bigger location like the Civic Centre, probably not Scotiabank though)
November 24: Doc Walker - Centrepointe Theatre
November 30: James Blunt - Scotiabank Place
December 5: Feist - National Arts Centre
February 3: Chicago - National Arts Centre
February 8: Hanson - Bronson Centre (remember the three brother's back in the 90's - their song called Mmmbop!)
February 24: Simple Plan & Mariana's Trench - Scotiabank Place
April 14: Hedley, Karl Wolf & Classified - Scotiabank Place
May 5: Chris Deburgh - Scotiabank Place
May 20: Il Divo - Scotiabank Place (again not really the genre of music for most of us)
June 15: Lady Antebellum - Scotiabank Place
June 25: Rodger Waters - Scotiabank Place

Another major city event being moved way out in the suburbs.

Questionable move, but where downtown is there the capacity for that many people? Maybe on Parliament Hill itself?

What is the capacity at Walter Baker Park?

Lebreton Flats should be able to handle at least 30 000 (the biggest crowds from what I've heard). My thinking it can handle easily 50 000. Are they seriously thinking there will be over 50 000 at the Taylor Swikt show?

Moving to Kanata will hurt the numbers. Hopefully this location is temporary. That is clearly not the best location at all.

La Baie Park in Gatineau can handle up to 75 000 or even more based on past experience. This is might be the biggest location in terms of capacity for a concert of all of what I know.

Is there any areas that can handle 100 000+ in this city?

Lebreton can *easily* handle 40,000 - Bluesfest has had nearly that many (a main stage crowd of 37,000 as a record seems to stick in my head, but I could be wrong - certainly they've hit 35,000 several times), and has never filled "to capacity".

Parliament Hill is much larger than people realize. Supposedly there were 500,000 people on the Hill for the peak of the noonday show on Canada Day this year (ie, to see Will & Kate). It's amazing how many people can fit in surprising spaces.

That said, I don't mourn the loss of a country show to the suburbs - probably most people who went came from Barhaven or Kanata anyway... The article itself hints at the real problem: not people capacity but car (parking) capacity. Lebreton could take 50,000 people, but not 25,000 cars (assuming everyone shares a ride). People going to a country music festival probably take their cars in greater numbers, where people going to other festivals may be more inclined to take transit.

Those are very true points. A disproportionate number of the locals there likely come from the suburbs or from the outlying areas. However, many are likely coming from out of town, and the most likely place for them to stay is downtown, not in Barrhaven or Kanata.

Parliament Hill itself would be a great place I agree, but it would create a lot of anger from downtowners, most of them want nothing to do with country music and they believe it does not represent Canada at all (at least in the mind of them).

Learned this from a Facebook friend of mine but deadmau5 will be the act performing at the CE Centre inauguration. They will also be performing at the Junos.

You'll never get Parliament Hill: it's not a public park and no commercial events are allowed any more. As for Canada Day, all we need is a dumb thing like a shooting or threat to the buildings or the MPs and the entire place is off limits for good.

Economically trapped, for now.

In the mean time, can we get a promoter who can get some decent musicians to call in here on their driver from Montreal to Toronto? If we can get Capital Whoredown or whatever that white trash fest is called, surely we can get Belle and Sebastian or someone.

In spite of their smaller population, Ottawa and the Valley are probably a much bigger market for the type of music at Capital Hoedown than Montreal and environs would be.

If you look at Montreal the festivals are much the same as in Ottawa as for Toronto yes they have some festivals but really not on the scale of Montreal & Ottawa.
