I'm sure they'll do just fine.

Isn't this right next to the USC campus? It makes sense. Lucas graduated from USC's School of Cinematic Arts - where a building is actually named after him.

I'm sure it'll be a great tourist draw.

hopefully lucas will spend his time fussing around with this dopey vanity project instead of 'revisioning' his damn movies. but it will be popular, at least for awhile, and nice that it looks cool and takes away parking lots.

Unfortunately, the building looks like something out of the prequels than the original.

Speaking of, when is Disney going to reboot/remake episodes I-III?

Yes, and it's also next to the Expo Park museums which collectively draw over 3 million visitors a year. Why wouldn't this be a good place for another museum?

a) that doesn't change the fact that your initial statement was wrong
b) tourists do indeed go to the SFV for universal studios and the WB studio tour

George Lucas Museum of Narrative Art Finds A New Hope in Los Angeles
Quote:
When news broke late last year that George Lucas was searching for a permanent home for his planned Museum of Narrative Art in either San Francisco or Los Angeles, film buffs and Sci-Fi enthusiasts alike were left to wonder which city would be graced with the presence of the legendary director and screenwriter's legacy project. Each location seemed to come with its own equally significant merits and shortcomings.

Hot off the presses:

Quote:
Earlier this week, the Los Angeles City Council approved filmmaker George Lucas' plan to build his Museum of Narrative Art in Exposition Park. A new report from NBC Los Angeles showcases previously unseen renderings of the project's street-level interface.

...

Construction of the project is scheduled to commence in early 2018 and conclude by 2021.

Is it supposed to look like a vagina?

Chicago and SF dodged a bullet here. This thing will be such a turkey long-term.

I think only time will tell. Will future generations broaden the collection or will it just be a glorified time capsule?

Has the potential to be iconic, lets hope. LA also needs as many green spots as possible too.

This thing looks tacky as hell. It should probably fit in LA nicely.

What a fucking narcissist to dedicate an entire museum to himself though.

It seems like every third or fourth person is a Stars Wars nerd these days, so I expect the museum to be a huge hit. If not, there's a waterfall feature and some nicely landscaped areas for people to hang out before a USC football game or after seeing the Space Shuttle Endeavour.

However sliced, it's a win for us. The site is presently made up of two parking lots used for tailgating -- a complete eyesore. Any proposal to turn it into regular park space likely wouldn't look much better than what's presented in the renderings. In other words, this is pretty much the most/best we'll ever see for this location. I'll take it.

Ugh. It's not about himself.
Maybe you should read more about what it actually is.

Right, it's about his little star wars toys, I get it. He's paying for it and if he's naming it after himself, that's undeniably narcissistic.

If it ends up just being called the "Museum of Narrative Art" I'll have nothing to groan about, hopefully, it ends up like that.

Wow. That was unnecessary.

Anyway, I’m not mad about MAD architecture, nor am I looking forward to seeing the Lucas’ collection other than out of curiosity. But the park looks like it could be a successful communal space for the area, regardless of the museum. If the city ever decides to close down Bill Robertson lane, they could make an even greater impact by forming one contiguous open space with Exposition Park.

The location is good for Lucas because I think the museum itself would probably need feeder attendance from visitors of other museums in that area to be successful. But it depends on their programming because the current mission to educate about “narrative art” isn’t a concept anyone can grasp.

Looks amazing to me. I'd love to have it here in New York.
