COOPERSTOWN, NY: Baseball through the lens of Glowrock!

I just got back from a very nice trip to Upstate New York visiting jmancuso and some other good friends of mine. While I was up there I had the opportunity to visit Cooperstown, New York, which for those who don't know is the location where Baseball in its current form was invented, as well as the location of the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame. So without further ado, here are my photos!

Oh yes, I should also mention that we also were able to take a little side trip to a famous microbrewery in the Cooperstown area, Brewery Ommegang. Fantastic beers (all Belgian-style ales), and amazing scenery!

Aaron (Glowrock)

---------------------------------------------------------

Cooperstown is situated on the south end of Otsego Lake, about 45 miles SSE of Utica, New York.

Gorgeous homes abound here!

Labor Day Weekend Arts Festival!

jmancuso taking it all in.

Baseball Hall of Fame

Cooperstown's Main Street. As you can see, it's chock full of all things baseball-oriented!

We had lunch at the Doubleday Cafe. Trust me, it was nothing special...

Some of the Baseball Hall of Fame exhibits...

Yours truly in the reflection

Homestead Grays, a famous Negro League team from Pittsburgh.

"Are you crying? Are you crying? There's no crying in baseball!" -- Tom Hanks in "A League of their Own"

The famous, rare, and extremely expensive T-206 Honus Wagner Rookie Card!

Philly Fanatic!

Part of the Henry (Hank) Aaron collection.

Notice the asterisk on the baseball? Yep, it's one of Barry Bond's home run balls!

The actual Hall of Fame plaques are in a pretty amazing gallery.

Back outside...

Shoeless Joe's, anyone?

Why Dino is here, I have no idea... (from The Flintstones)

Cooperstown Diner. We probably should have eaten here!

I thought the name of the Chinese restaurant was hilarious!

James Fenimore Cooper, the founder of Cooperstown

Brewery Ommegang, about 10 miles outside of Cooperstown. Amazing beer, all Belgian-style! (Also, more of jmancuso)

Great photos! I went to Cooperstown with my dad and grandfather when I was 10-12 years old. For a 10 year old, there was nothing better than walking around the Hall of Fame. The town looks pretty attractive and the brewery would also be a must-visit site.

Looks a hell of a lot better than the Pro Football Hall of Fame, that's for sure.

Yes, yes it does! Unfortunately I haven't gotten the chance to go inside of the Football Hall of Fame, but the location is nearly enough to make one sick to their stomach. It makes no sense having something as great as the NFL Hall of Fame in such a lousy location, period. Right on the side of a major freeway? Come on, now!

I was very impressed by the Baseball Hall of Fame, both for the quality of the exhibits as well as the architecture of the building and how amazingly well it fits in with the fabric of Cooperstown!

Lovely little town. Everything breathes baseball here. It is like the town is living my dream.

The HOF is still on my wishlist.

Because of the asterisk, I really thought that this was the 61st homerun ball of Roger*Maris.

I always thought Cooperstown was a NYC suburb. Learn something new everyday.

The eastern part of Upstate New York is one of the most pleasant and attractive regions of the U.S.

Quality thread. I had no idea Cooperstown was so water-privileged.

Nice pictures. I did a thread on Cooperstown a couple years ago and was equally impressed with the town. The Hall of Fame was great and I ended up not being able to see everything due to time constraints. You should've checked out Doubleday Field, which is nestled behind that wax museum. It was built on the site that a farmer claimed to A.G. Spalding that Abner Doubleday organized a game there in 1839. Historical evidence obviously suggests nothing of the sort, but depsite this ancestral claim being discounted, Doubleday Field is a nice ballpark in its own right and probably personifies

How was the brewery? I've had a couple Ommegang beers at a pub down here and they have some nice beers. I like the Creme Brule beer, which tastes a lot like butterscotch.

Brewery Ommegang makes incredibly good beer, actually some of the best brews I've tasted anywhere!

Maybe I'm biased due to my extreme love of a good Belgian Ale!
