the cleveland woody market square development makes the wall street journal (behind a paywall):

Country’s Tallest Wooden Building Rising in Cleveland

Ambitious project proceeds despite coronavirus crisis

"In Cleveland, a developer is moving ahead with an ambitious project despite the pandemic: the country’s tallest wooden building. The nine-story development, dubbed Intro, will include 298 apartments, retail space and an event venue. It is being built primarily with mass timber, a type of pressed wood that is gaining popularity as a climate-friendly alternative to steel and concrete...."

booo! hisss!

now it looks like milwaukee's bigger woody than cleveland's is a go.

at least the cle will hold the crown for a few months tho lol:

https://urbanmilwaukee.com/2020/09/2...-timber-tower/

Intro: 9-story 350,000-square-foot 290 units
(retail base and underground parking)

Ascent: 25-story 284 ft tall 493,000-square-foot 259 units
(Topping out at 283 feet, the building would surpass the 280-foot Mjos Tower in Norway. Ascent will include a six-story concrete base used as a parking garage.)

and yes it counts even if its all not wood.

Is it just me or is this not "just" wood. Seems to me that combining wood in layers with adhesive would make it much stronger while making it more resistant to burning.

Although the subject is an ancient history, it contains great information. I will soon build a wooden house and buy a wood stove. Reading books will be great.

25 Floor Wood Building in Milwaukee Topped Out

On the evening news the other night, they had a story about a wood skyscraper (25 floors) in Milwaukee that just topped out. Anybody have more info on this? Could wood buildings go as high as steel/concrete? Are they cheaper to build?

^ yes its the 25 story ascent. more:

https://www.fox6now.com/news/worlds-...lwaukee-ascent

so its the new tallest — but hang on because the cleveland market square development is gearing up for a phase two office building that may try to beat it. also, i believe there is another wood tower planned or underway somewhere else too.

edit — here it is near zurich:
